We’re pleased to offer EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) — an evidence-based psychotherapy that helps the brain process and resolve distressing experiences.

EMDR therapy is available to both inpatients and outpatients at Deakin Private Hospital. For outpatients, EMDR is currently offered by Nurse Practitioner, Peter Dexter, with inpatient EMDR provided as part of our broader therapeutic programs.

EMDR works by supporting the brain’s natural ability to heal, using guided bilateral stimulation to reduce the emotional intensity of difficult memories and beliefs. Over time, these experiences can feel less overwhelming and easier to hold.

EMDR is widely used to support people experiencing trauma, anxiety, and other emotional or psychological challenges, and can be a powerful option when talk therapy alone hasn’t felt like enough.

If you’d like to learn more or discuss whether EMDR might be suitable for you, our team is here to help.

In the wake of the devastating attack in Bondi, our hearts go out to all those directly impacted, and to everyone in our community who is feeling the weight of this tragedy.

Trauma can affect us in ways we don’t always expect—emotionally, physically, and mentally. As we process the shock, it’s important to remember that it’s okay not to have all the answers, and it’s okay to feel overwhelmed.

If you’re struggling, please know you’re not alone. Take the time you need to process, reach out to your support network, and don’t hesitate to seek professional help when you’re ready. Healing takes time, and we’re here for you every step of the way.

Sending love, strength, and compassion to those affected.

Sleep Hygiene Tips for Warmer Nights 🌙
As the weather heats up, it can be harder to get the restful sleep we need. But there are simple ways to improve your sleep hygiene and make the most of the warm nights!

Here are some tips to help you sleep better as the temperature rises:

01. Stay Hydrated
Dehydration can lead to restless nights. Make sure you drink plenty of water throughout the day. Keep a glass of water by your bedside in case you wake up thirsty.
Tip: Avoid caffeine and alcohol before bed.

02. Stick to a Consistent Sleep Schedule
Even as the days get longer, try to stick to a regular bedtime and wake-up time to keep your circadian rhythm in check. Consistency helps signal to your body when it's time to wind down.
Tip: Limit screen time an hour before bed.

03. Create a Relaxing Bedtime Routine
Take a warm shower or bath to relax before bed. Avoid stimulating activities, and consider reading a book or listening to music.
Tip: Try light stretching or deep breathing exercises.

04. Mind the Evening Heat
Warm weather often means warmer nights. Try opening a window, using a fan or air conditioner to keep your bedroom cool, as the ideal sleep temperature is between 16-18°C.
Tip: Consider switching to breathable, moisture-wicking bedding made from cotton or linen to stay cool and comfortable.

As the warmer nights settle in, prioritising good sleep hygiene is essential to help you feel rested and refreshed each morning.
