As the year draws to a close, we would like to extend our warmest Christmas wishes to our patients, colleagues, and community.

We hope the festive season brings you time to relax, reflect, and enjoy moments with family and friends. May the New Year be filled with good health, strength, and continued progress toward your goals.

Our office will be closing from 24 December 2025 until 4 January 2026. For existing patients only, Dr Porter and our nurses are conducting a post surgery review clinic on 29 December 2025.

Congratulations to all the Canberra Runners in the 2025 Melbourne Marathon and half marathon today and what great running conditions. Dr Mark Porter managed to complete his 72nd Marathon and his next goal is Boston in 2026.

Registrations for Melbourne Marathon 2026 will be open in 1 month and expected to fill up in 24hrs.

Our office will be closed from 24 December 2024 until the 5 January 2025. Dr Mark Porter will be seeing post surgery clients only on 27 December 2024 and 1st January 2025.

Canberra has one Healthscope hospital - National Capital Private Hospital. Dr Mark Porter does not operate at this private hospital so this issue will not impact on any planned surgery for clients with Bupa Insurance.

Dr Mark Porter’s research paper just published in the latest print version of Sports Health Journal out today. The research aims to compare the outcome of knee arthroscopic partial meniscectomy with that of physiotherapy alone for irreparable meniscal tears.

Dr MarK Porter is currently participating in a new International research study looking at whether knee cartilage injuries heal better with microfracture procedure or a thermo-gel device.

The device is approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration in Australia and multiple other countries.

We currently have about 30 patients on the research study so Physiotherapists will see these patients post surgery for standed rehabilitation with few extra study treatment monitoring such as MRI and follow ups.

The study is known as JMAC Study and follow the link below for more information about who is eligible and what the study is trying to acheive.

Microfracture repair is a surgical technique used to repair damaged cartilage by making multiple small holes on the surface of the joint to promote new blood vessels to the region of repair in order to improve the healing process.

Huge turn out today at the Canberra Running festival with over 10,500 runners in various events. Great to see so many people of all age groups. Dr Mark Porter completing his 70th marathon and next one will be Berlin.
