Today marks 29 years since the release of the Bringing Them Home report, marking a defining moment in acknowledging the experience of the Stolen Generations in Australia.

Emerging from a national inquiry, the 1997 report shed light on the forced removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families and the enduring impacts this has had across generations. Through powerful testimonies and lived experiences, the report reveals the deep loss, trauma and cultural disconnection faced by individuals, families and communities. Its 54 recommendations call for truth-telling, healing, reparations and the importance of delivering culturally safe and appropriate services.

At NTRLP, we recognise the ongoing significance of this report and honour the strength and resilience of Stolen Generations survivors and their communities. We are committed to walking alongside First Nations peoples, supporting care that respects culture, centres community voices and strengthens self-determination.

We all have a role to play in continuing this work, advancing understanding, supporting healing and building a more just and inclusive future.

Here's a testimonial from Nayna, one of our incredible locum GPs.

"The thought of working in remote areas of the Northern Territory was something that had been sitting with me for a while. When I saw a promotion for the NTRLP, I knew it was the place for me. They opened the door for me in a safe and supportive way, considering both me and the communities in need of health care support.

Prior to working with the NTRLP, I hadn’t done any locum work. From receiving the first email about locum opportunities, the team made things extremely easy for me. In the lead up they provided me with a cultural and clinical orientation and answered all of my annoying questions generously and efficiently! They made themselves available to me during the placement and took steps to make things as seamless as possible.

For those thinking about joining NTRLP, I'd say it's definitely worth exploring."

Today is World Tuberculosis Day, a time to recommit to turning the tide on TB.

In Australia, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities continue to lead the way in shaping culturally safe, community-driven approaches to healthcare. These approaches are critical in preventing and managing tuberculosis (TB), particularly in remote regions.

At NTRLP, we support rural and remote health services to strengthen early detection, improve access to treatment and ensure care is delivered in a way that respects culture, community knowledge and local leadership. Ending TB is not out of reach, but it requires sustained commitment, collaboration and equitable access to care. By backing community-led solutions and supporting a strong rural workforce, we can help turn the tide.

Today we recognise National Close the Gap Day 2026.

Across the Northern Territory, NTRLP works alongside communities who continue to face real barriers to accessing healthcare. But we also see the strength, resilience and deep knowledge within those communities every day.

We know that better health outcomes come from listening, building trust and supporting care that reflects local culture and needs.

Closing the gap is something we all have a role in. At NTRLP, we’re committed to being part of that journey, working alongside communities to support consistent, respectful and accessible healthcare.

People often ask us, 'What's a remote placement actually like?'

Experiences can definitely vary, but one thing that is consistent is that our locums are safe, supported and have a great experience out in community. See for yourself with the below testimonial from Kaylene R., who recently completed a placement in Wadeye, NT.

💬 "I recently had the opportunity to participate in a remote placement at Wadeye, Northern Territory, and it was an experience I will never forget.

“From the moment I arrived, I felt supported by the local community health clinic, the school nurse, and the inclusion team. Their intrinsic knowledge of the residents living in the Wadeye community and the guidance they offered were invaluable in helping us achieve positive and safe outcomes. The accommodation was comfortable and provided a secure environment, fostering a collaborative team spirit among a close-knit network of like-minded remote workers who looked out for each other's safety and well-being. If you communicate well and take the time to learn from others who have experience in challenging communities, I highly recommend this placement".
