On this day, we remember Cathy Freeman’s iconic Olympic victory, a moment of unity, pride and inspiration for all Australians.

Her courage and determination continue to inspire us as we deliver healthcare that uplifts, empowers and supports First Nations communities across the Northern Territory.

Just as Cathy’s story reflects resilience and strength, so too do the everyday stories of Aboriginal Communities across the Territory, whose determination continues to drive our work.

Today, we acknowledge the anniversary of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).

This important declaration recognises the inherent rights of Indigenous peoples to culture, language, health and self-determination.

In the Northern Territory, these rights are reflected through Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations, where communities lead decisions about their health and well-being.

At NTRLP, we honour these principles by delivering healthcare that is respectful, culturally informed and community-driven ensuring that every service protects autonomy, dignity and wellbeing.

Today, we celebrate Indigenous Literacy Day, a day that honours the power of language, culture and storytelling in shaping stronger communities.

In the Northern Territory, over 100 Aboriginal languages are spoken.

At NTRLP, we recognise that health and wellbeing are strengthened when care respects these languages and ways of sharing knowledge. Health literacy is more than reading and writing, it’s about understanding, empowerment and ensuring care is delivered in ways that connect with culture and community.

We are proud to make our services accessible, culturally safe and informed by the voices of the communities we serve.
