A simple cup of soup might be comforting, but it often lacks enough protein, energy, and essential nutrients—especially for older adults! Here are some easy ways to boost the nutrition and make it a more complete meal:

🥄 Add Protein: Stir in cooked chicken, tuna, tofu, or an egg.

🥄 Healthy Fats: A drizzle of olive oil, grated cheese, or a spoon of Greek yogurt.

🥄 Extra Calories & Fibre: Mix in cooked rice, pasta, or blended veggies.

🥄 Fortify with Dairy: Add a splash of full-cream milk or evaporated milk for extra calcium.

🥄 Bulk it Up: Toss in lentils, beans, or mashed potato to increase the heartiness.

Do you have high cholesterol or at risk?
Did you know! There are chemicals that occur naturally in foods to reduce your levels.

These are known as……….

Plant sterols, also known as phytosterols, are naturally occurring compounds found in plant-based foods. They have a structure similar to cholesterol, but unlike cholesterol, plant sterols can help lower LDL ("bad") cholesterol levels in the blood.

When consumed, plant sterols compete with cholesterol for absorption in the digestive system. This means that less cholesterol is absorbed, and more is excreted, which helps to reduce overall cholesterol levels. This cholesterol-lowering effect is particularly beneficial for heart health.

Foods rich in plant sterols include:
- Vegetable oils (e.g., sunflower, corn, olive oil)
- Nuts and seeds
- Whole grains
- Fruits and vegetables
- Fortified foods like margarine, milk, and orange juice
