MEET US, ON MONDAYS...

Welcome to our regular Monday morning post where we help you get to know the people who make up the rich fabric that is Palm Lake Care. Today, let us introduce you to Helen, one of our dedicated Registered Nurses at Palm Lake Care Deception Bay...

Before nursing, Helen spent 12 years in early childhood education. These days, she ensures medications are given on time and supports residents' health alongside our broader care team.

Her favourite part of the job? Sharing stories and laughs with residents. Outside of work, Helen is a keen runner preparing for not one, but two marathons – and she’s also been dancing ballroom and Latin since she was 16!

Her advice for anyone considering aged care: “Go for it! Learn from the residents – they have so much wisdom to share.”

Our Palm Lake Care Toowoomba residents loved their recent rock ’n roll dance display 🧑🏻‍🎤🎸 The music was great, the costumes were colourful and the energy in the room was at an all-time high! Toes were tapping and many in the audience were reminded of the fun they had at dances all those decades ago. Talk about a blast from the past!

We love our Palm Lake Care Mt Warren Park community! A special thank you to Irene who donated a package of beautiful crochet blankets to us on Wednesday. Here, you can see Rose and Val opening the delivery, and some of our ladies showing off their new blankets. Wilma was delighted with her blue one, while Pat chose her favourite colour: pink! Thank you kindly, Irene 🩵

If you know someone who would love to visit our community, volunteering their time with our residents, make sure you let them know we are always seeking new volunteers. Volunteers might assist us with Lifestyle activities or they might spend time one-on-one with residents.

It’s a rewarding role - do you know someone perfect for it? Tell them to phone their nearest Palm Lake Care location (head to www.palmlakecare.com.au to find our contact details) and express their interest in volunteering. We'd love to have them 🩵

Two matriarchs of our Palm Lake Care Beachmere community each turned 101 recently. We sat down with both of them and found out some of the secrets to their longevity and happiness...

🎈 HILDA
What are the most significant changes you’ve witnessed in your lifetime? Money has changed so much now.
What world events had the most impact on you? WWII, because I got called up to help when I was 18.
What advice would you give your younger self? I would remind myself of how lucky I am.
If you could go back to any age, what would it be? Age 14, because that is when I left school.
What life advice would you pass along? I would say to always think the best of someone, don’t do stupid things - like drugs - and don’t be mean to people.

🎂 AGNES
Who was the person who influenced your life the most? My grandfather, because he was the Mayor.
What are the most significant changes you’ve witnessed in your lifetime? Trains have changed a lot since I was a child. Carnivals have changed a lot, too.
What advice would you give your younger self? I would say to listen to my older siblings.
If you could go back to any age, what would it be? Age 13 or 14.
What life advice would you pass along? To listen to your seniors.

Happy birthday, Hilda and Agnes!

We’re delighted to share news that a brand-new café is coming soon to Palm Lake Care Bargara! Work on the cafe has already commenced and will continue over the coming weeks, with the official opening expected mid-July.

This new space will bring a fresh level of service to our community. The cafe will offer barista-made coffee, mouthwatering snacks and other sweet treats. Styled in line with the popular cafés across our other Palm Lake Care communities, Bargara’s café has been designed to be a warm and welcoming hub - the perfect place for a chat with friends, to catch up with family, or enjoying a quiet moment with the morning paper. Our drinks menu will include fully loaded coffees, decaf options and a range of dairy and plant-based milks to suit all tastes and dietary needs. Milkshakes, soft drinks and fresh fruit juices will also be on offer ☕

Recruitment is now underway to find a talented barista who’ll ensure your brew is perfect every time. Stay tuned for more details of the cafe’s grand opening celebration.

MEET US, ON MONDAYS...

At Palm Lake Care Bargara, vibrant and community-minded resident Yvonne Jater is making her mark - both as a representative and newsletter writer. In her mid-80s, Yvonne brings decades of experience in advocacy, council work and volunteering to her role as the official resident voice, attending meetings and speaking up for those who can’t.

Originally from Melbourne, Yvonne and her late husband Ray shared a love of travel and raised a close-knit family. After moving to Queensland, Yvonne served on the Gooburrum Shire Council and supported local causes like the Bundaberg Housing Action Group and Make-A-Wish. Today, she continues her legacy of care through 'Yvonne's Titillating Titbits', a self-published monthly newsletter packed with local stories for her fellow residents.

Yvonne planned ahead for her retirement, first living at Palm Lake Resort Bargara before transitioning seamlessly into aged care. Her days are full - visitors drop by regularly for chats, card games and mah-jong. With a busy desk, a big heart, and a sharp mind, Yvonne remains a cherished and inspiring presence at Palm Lake Care Bargara.
