I have sad news. I'm leaving Deception Bay in March and am moving up to Townsville to take on a new opportunity outside of general practice, for both personal and family reasons.

I know this may be a big upheaval, and it's been an honour to contribute to so many people's healthcare.
Nationwide, there is a shortage of doctors (and all other healthcare staff), so please be kind to the reception staff. The practice owners are trying to get locum cover as well as recruit at least one additional doctor, if not more.

We've got Pfizer covid-19 vaccines available and anyone 12 and older can have one.
AZ is still available if that's a preference.
Both are good vaccines.

We've now got the IT working a bit better to allow online bookings. We've only got it open for a few days just now, in case it breaks, but expect more days next week!

Vaccines: Queensland Health are offering walk-in covid vaccines to all weekend. Anyone aged 12 and older (including over 60s) will be offered a Pfizer vaccine.

Good news - we will also have Pfizer vaccines for all eligible groups (12-59, over 60s), from Tuesday.

And Pharmacies will be offering Moderna shortly as well.

So let's not do a NSW, and make sure we're all safe and protected when we open up!

Covid-19 / coronavirus is causing a lot of distress to many people in various ways.

It's also radically changed the way we deliver healthcare within the week, with a change to pre-arranged appointments for patients with no known viral symptoms in the morning, and phonecalls to triage all other problems and decide where best to have care delivered, or indeed just do it remotely.

This is for everyones safety and to minimise any risk of cross infection.

Moving to more phonecalls does also mean it's not a good time to change your doctor. It's imporant to have a mental picture of the person you're calling, and also have access to as much old records as possible.

Because of this, I will only be able to take on new patients who are the children of existing patients. I believe for safety and continuity of care, people should stick with the one practice, and their 'usual doctor' where possible.
