A year ago today, I sewed the seeds which grew into Breathe Easier.

It took a lot of courage to step away from the security of hospital based nursing and I would not be here without the support of my own personal cheer squad who always believed in me. I would never have taken the leap without you all (you know who are!).

I can’t wait to meet and support more families as this journey continues!

“This might sound like a silly question but…” NO! 🙅🏻‍♀️

I’ve been hearing this a lot lately. There’s no such thing as a silly question! 💡

Your session with me is your time to let all the questions out. 💨

To feel supported and encouraged. 🤗

To address all of your concerns. 📝

So that when it’s over you feel empowered to manage your child’s asthma moving forward. 💪

It’s one of the things I love about my job. 🥰

With hospital emergency departments under pressure and at capacity around the country, some states have opened virtual ED’s.

This service connects you to an emergency nurse who will assess and triage you (or your child). You will then be put into a virtual waiting room to see an emergency specialist doctor if required.
The availability and open times vary between states. I couldn’t find any services for WA, NSW, NT or TAS but would love to hear if I’ve missed any.

Links to the various services are below.

In 2003, this fresh faced new graduate entered the world of nursing with bright eyes, unwavering passion and unbridled enthusiasm. She had always wanted to be a nurse. Walking through hospital doors filled her with excitement for the career to come - she even loved that hospital smell! (Weird but true!)

Never could she have imagined where she would be today - helping families navigate asthma, providing the education and support her own family didn’t have when she was growing up with asthma. Running her own business…

Never in her wildest dreams could she have imagined a global pandemic and its ongoing effects would throw her colleagues deep into the trenches, unable to see through the darkness to remember their own versions of that bright eyed graduate, struggling to find the passion to keep going.

I’m concerned for the future my profession. For the future of my own health in a system struggling to keep its head above water.

Today and always I am so proud to be a nurse. I really hope that those still deep in the trenches have the strength to stick with it. And that there will still be future generations of passionate, bright eyed graduates who love the smell of hospitals and want to embrace a nursing career.

Spacer storage hack!

Did you know most spacers are designed to fit puffers snuggly inside for easy storage and transportation?

🎒 Just open your spacer, pop the puffer inside, close, and throw into school bags, nappy bags and back packs!

⏰ Saves time hunting around in the bottom of bags for one or both!

💋 Tag a friend who might like to know this one!

Heart full. Receiving testimonials always makes my day. 🥰

💭 Is your spacer anti-static? What does this mean and why does it matter?

⚡️ Static spacers generate static electricity which means some medication can get stuck to the walls of the spacer. In order to prevent this, they require priming on first use and special cleaning.

💨 Many spacers available now are anti-static. This means that the plastic they are made from does NOT generate static electricity. So they do not require priming or special cleaning. You can even wash them in the dish washer!

Happy International Women's Day.

Today is a great opportunity to look at the way asthma effects women and girls in Australia.

These statistics are the same around the world.

We don't yet know exactly why the prevalence of asthma is higher for women than men but scientists believe it could be related to increased oestrogen production.

Who needs Valentines day when I have feedback like this? It brings sunshine to my day.

My job is not to tell you what you're doing wrong, or leave you feeling like you've just sat in a 1 hour lecture.

My job is first to listen, understand and empathise. Once we're both there together understanding your child's full medical history and immersed in your worries and frustrations, thats when the magic happens! That's when the empowerment comes!
