Mulberry Lane Holistic Health- Naturally Inspired Health and Wellness Natural beauty is the vitality that shines from the inside out. A balance of body, mind and soul.

Naturopathy is a blend of Traditional healing knowledge and skills combined with the modern day advantage of Science and evidence based medicine. We look to support the person as a whole – all body systems, mind, emotions and spirit/energy. We look to help restore any imbalances by taking the time to review any contributing factors. Changes may be incorporated through changes in diet, lifestyle, exercise, herbs, flower essences and nutrients. Initial consults run for an hour and I will ask a lot of questions to get a detailed picture of where we can start empowering you on your healing journey. We may consider further testing and review your “normal” blood test results compared to “optimal” levels. The foundation of Naturopathic Practice is based on 6 principles -
1) First do no harm (Primum Non Nocere)

2) To utilise the healing power of nature (Vis Medicatrix Naturae)

3) Find and treat the cause, wherever possible, not just symptoms (Tolle Causam)

4) Treat the whole person (Tolle Totum)

5) Practitioner as Teacher to support and empower the client (Docere)

6) Focusing on overall health and disease prevention (Praevenic)

I am available for mobile consults within the Moreton Bay region. I focus on providing you an individualised, wholistic assessment, and treatment plan to support you on your healing journey. I can help you find your balance of body, mind, and soul with gentle ways to reconnect with nature, to empower you in your healing journey. We can cover nutrition, herbal infusions, and tinctures and medicinal plants, flower essences, plus garden therapy and growing your own herbs and plants.

Most of the clinical trials of the benefits of saffron in people suffering from depression are small and have been conducted in Iran. A new study has helped to address this evidence imbalance and provides us with greater confidence that this medicinal herb and spice can truly alleviate low mood.

A proprietary saffron extract (dose 28 mg/day) was validated in a large-scale placebo-controlled trial. The trial included more than 200 people and ran for 12 weeks In Australia. Trial participants were all healthy adults reported to have mild or subclinical depression as measured on the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS).

The researchers found that 72% of participants in the saffron group showed a clinically significant improvement in the DASS, compared to 54% in the placebo group (p = 0.010). A clear difference for saffron over placebo on the DASS was only evident after 8 weeks, suggesting that treatment should be trialled for at least this long before assessing any clinical benefit. There was no impact on sleep overall, but improvements in sleep disturbances were identified in the subset of participants with a greater severity of sleep issues. There were no serious adverse reactions reported.

The scientists concluded that their study, the largest conducted to date on saffron, provides evidence supporting the beneficial effects of three months of saffron supplementation on depressive symptoms in adults, but they also noted the large placebo response.

This saffron extract is in the solid dose products I prescribe in my clinic.

Prebiotic foods to add to your daily intake. 🌿

Certain foods are well-known for their prebiotic content, like Jerusalem artichokes, but a variety of plant foods contain prebiotics.

This makes it easier to get in 5 grams of prebiotics daily, which is a therapeutic dose.

Which is better, fermented foods or probiotics?

Well, they each have unique benefits, but neither can truly replace the other. Eating fermented foods will likely not give you the same targeted benefits as a strain-specific probiotic.

And strain-specific probiotics, while potent therapeutic tools, don't always provide the same benefits as fermented foods.

Fermented foods have a unique effect in that they increase the diversity of the gut ecosystem. However, not everyone tolerates fermented foods well.

A 2022 review in Nutrients did a great deep dive into the benefits of fermented foods. Check it out here PMID: 35406140

Quote of the day...

"The body's innate wisdom to heal is awakened when we listen deeply, nourish thoughtfully, and rest completely. True health isn't merely the absence of illness, but the vibrant presence of balance in body, mind, and spirit." ❤️
