🐶❤️✨ We love our job! 🐶❤️✨

This canine fellow came up to us from Hobart with a nasty foreleg fracture - nasty because of all the chips of bone in the fracture site 🦴.

To repair this, the large bone plate was inserted via an almost keyhole approach (minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis) from the top of the leg. This method preserves the blood supply to all the chips by not disturbing the fracture site, thereby maximizing the rate of healing 🩹.

He was using the leg really well when discharged from hospital a couple of days later! 🥰

Next up in our "Meet the Vets of the Meander Valley" series is the wonderful Dr. Emma Dolan, BVSc!

Emma graduated from the University of Sydney in 2017. She joined our team and has been a fantastic part of MVVS for 2.5 years. Originally from a small local farm, Emma has a deep understanding of the unique needs of our community and its animals.

She has a special interest in the most challenging critical and emergency cases, bringing a sharp mind to complex situations. When she's not expertly handling emergencies, you can find her enjoying her favorite part of working at MVVS: her great colleagues and the incredibly diverse caseload.

Outside of work, Emma is kept busy on her small property with her dogs, horses, and chickens. She also loves spending time with family, taking short walks on the beach, and relaxing with a good movie or book. We're so lucky to have her dedication and skills on our team!

♥️🐶💉 We Are Excited about Arthramid joint injections! 💉🐶♥️

We have been using Arthramid joint injections in horses and dogs for several years with really good clinical improvements, and below is an example of proof of just how good it is. This dog was treated 2 ½ years ago due to hip pain and reduced range of movement, with a clinical diagnosis of early stage arthritis despite no bone changes on X-ray. He has been going great, and was in recently for a different procedure under anaesthetic, so we took the opportunity to X-ray his hips again – we are thrilled with the totally minimal progession of the arthritis, which is in agreement with the latest European research for this product.

This product gives reliable results from a single treatment, often enabling cessation of all other pain relief medications. The really impressive thing is the duration of benefit – we expect at least 12 – 18 months from a single treatment.

To our knowledge we are the only vets in Tassie using this product in dogs (despite our encouragement to our colleagues!). The product is just starting trial work in dogs in Australia, so hopefully that will result in broader acceptance of the benefits. It's time for another installment of our "Meet the Vets of the Meander Valley" series! Today, we're introducing a true local who has returned to her roots—Dr. Juleesa Braybon.

Born and bred in Tasmania, Juleesa grew up on a dairy farm right here in the Meander Valley! After spending 12 years on the mainland and graduating from Charles Sturt University in 2018 with a Bachelor of Veterinary Biology/Bachelor of Veterinary Science, she's finally back home. We were so excited to have her join our team in February of this year!

Dr. Braybon has a love of all things dairy cows, with a strong interest in herd reproduction. She's also a certified Dairy Australia Countdown Mastitis and Repro Right Advisor. When asked about her favorite part of working at MVVS, she said she loves getting to service and know the farms in the area she grew up in, as well as the great team she works with every day.

Outside of work, you can find her spending time with family, playing netball, running Parkruns, and hiking through Tassie's beautiful landscapes.
