📣 Pharmacist Highlight Fridays! 💊👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

This Friday we are introducing Bill!

Q: What inspired you to be a pharmacist?
I’ve always enjoyed helping people and wanted a career where I could combine science with making a real difference in people’s everyday health. Pharmacy was the perfect fit.

Q: How long have you been a pharmacist?
I’ve been practising for over 20 years and still love that every day brings something new.

Q: What’s the difference between a brand name and a generic drug?
They both contain the same active ingredient and work the same way, but generic medicines are usually less expensive because they don’t carry the brand name.

Q: What’s one piece of advice you would offer to people suffering from dry eye symptoms at the moment?
Try to take regular breaks from screens, use lubricating eye drops when needed, and remember to stay well-hydrated. If your symptoms persist, have a chat with your pharmacist for tailored advice.

📣 Pharmacist Highlight Fridays! 💊👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

This Friday we are introducing Amanda!

What inspired you to be a pharmacist?
I’d always been drawn to science and medicine, but it was growing up in Deni and witnessing the dedication of local pharmacists caring for our community that truly inspired me. Seeing the impact they had on people’s lives made me realise that pharmacy could be a deeply rewarding and meaningful career path, and it sure has been!

How long have you been a pharmacist?
Almost 13 years! it feels like a long time, but I still learn something new and interesting everyday!

How should people properly store their medications at home?
Using your medications carefully at home is really important for keeping yourself and your family safe. It’s best to keep them out of sight and out of reach.
Store medications in a cool, dry place (unless the label says otherwise). Avoid bathrooms or kitchens where heat and humidity can affect potency.
Keep medications in their original containers with labels intact. This helps avoid mix-ups and ensures you always have the dosing instructions handy.
Use a lockable cabinet if possible — especially important if you have children or teenagers in the home.
Never share prescriptions — even if symptoms seem similar, what works for one person could be harmful to another.
Keep a medication list for each family member, including doses and schedules. This can be crucial during emergencies.

How can pharmacists help in managing chronic conditions like Asthma? From teaching proper inhaler technique to helping you understand your asthma action plan, pharmacists are your go-to experts for personalised support. They can review your medications, monitor for overuse of relievers, and make sure you’re staying on track with treatment. Plus, they offer tips on avoiding asthma triggers and can even provide important vaccines like the flu shot. This week is National Asthma Week so we’re having lots of chats about lung health- better asthma control could be just a conversation away! 💙

MEET OUR PHARMACISTS

WILLIAM grew up on the Northern Tablelands in NSW before moving to Sydney to complete a Bachelor of Science at the University of NSW. This led to the completion of a Bachelor of Pharmacy at the University of Sydney with first class honours and the University Medal.

In 2007 William moved to Wagga to continue practicing pharmacy in a rural environment. William has two children Hudson and Josephine. In 2008 he became a partner across the four Capital Chemist stores in Wagga before they evolved and became the Ruralpharm Group. In 2012 William purchased the Amcal pharmacy in Deniliquin from John and Ann Hargreaves. Soon after the pharmacy was rebranded as Soul Pattinson because of its long heritage and strong commitment to professional clinical services.

William is passionate about rural health care and regional business opportunities. William believes pharmacy should be innovative in improving healthcare access and reduce health inequity in rural areas. The local pharmacy should also be a strong advocate for primary health care providing consistent, high quality professional services for all customers.
