WA Premier tells Port Hedland council 'stick to knitting' after anti-COVID vaccine motion passes

WA's Town of Port Hedland council has passed a motion urging state and federal governments to suspend COVID-19 vaccines, prompting the Premier to say they should "stick to their knitting" and stop spreading unverified claims.

Do you understand what your responsibility will be under the changes? If a business continues to enforce these jabs as a work requirement then they will be on their own to be accountable under the Work Health and Safety Act (2020) WA without the backup of 'but the government says I have to do it!'.

Under the Letter of Advice from Dr Andrew Robertson, Chief Health Office WA to Mark McGowan, Premier of WA, dated the 27th May 2022, the CHO stated:

I note that the remaining Directions will only remain extant for as long as the Public Health State of Emergency, under the Public Health Act 2016, remains in place. Following this, the workplaces themselves will need to determine if an employer direction under the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 or other internal arrangements are needed to support ongoing high vaccination rates of their workers.

A Pilbara council is set to take the WA Government to the Supreme Court to challenge the State’s ongoing vaccination mandates.

Do you feel it’s a strategic move with the pending election coming?

Do you feel it’s fair that workers still need to be jabbed and yet customers don’t need to be.

The Denmark Shire's Ordinary Council meeting was held on Tuesday 19th of April. The Pro-Choice motions were up for debate, and were to be voted on by Councillors.
We regret to inform you that it was a let down of epic proportions.
The Councillors did not debate our motions, nor did they vote on them.
Cr Ceinwen Gearon moved the officer's recommendation, which was seconded by Cr Nathan Devenport, and then all Councillors voted in support.
The officer's recommendation was "no action required".
They have put out a public statement that acknowledged our feelings, but basically stated that Government knows best and vaccines are unquestionably wonderful. How brave of them.

What the Councillors have effectively done is condone discrimination and coercion. Every single one of them have revealed that their allegiance is in keeping with the status quo rather then facing a human rights issue unfolding in their own community. We won't forget it.

Its with proud reflection, we had such a positive outcome on the 8th March. A true moment in history for Denmark.

With all motions passed along with strong evidence, facts and case studies shared.

Due to the council’s process we need to go through their next protocol.

Let’s hope that the councillors live up to their role and purpose as individuals in the position they are respectfully in.

If you are unaware this is their role for all people -

‘The duties of a Councillor are to: represent the interests of electors, ratepayers and residents. provide leadership and guidance to the community. facilitate communication between the community and the Council.’

The Councillors are due to debate and vote on the motions passed at the Pro-Choice Special Elector's meeting.
