Teen mental health and development course.
I recently attended a wonderful in person seminar by the incredible hosted by .
We took a deep dive into teen and adolescent development and learnt how different life challenges may affect their mental health. We covered topics such as tics and Tourette’s, eating disorders, self harm and more.
These are heavy topics but a real experience for many families and the stats don’t look to be improving.
This is why I’m so passionate about learning and encouraging other practitioners to treat children and teens. We all need to be doing what we can to support this very important phase of life.

Morning hydration 💧 What’s missing here is the 300-500ml of warm lemon water to start the day.
Then herbal tea- currently peppermint, common mint, lemon balm (all from the garden) and ginger with local honey.
The Chinese herbs are made at this same time but need time to dissolve and cool down. So herbs and greens will go down last, as we leave the house. 🏠

If you have kids that don’t drink water at school, try this (at appropriate amounts) and rest easy knowing they are well hydrated before starting their day. And have the bottle ready at pick up.

Does your kid get constipated, get angry and emotional easily, feel thirsty at night, have dark skin under their eyes, or dry skin?? These are possible signs of dehydration and starting their day off well may change all of this.

Lastly, don’t forget to check your wee colour for signs of hydration. Mild yellow to clear ish is best 🌟

Split systems can get full of mould, bacteria and dust. If you or your child has allergies get them hygienically cleaned regularly. You don’t want to be blowing contaminated air around 💨
I also recommend avoiding carpets and curtains if you can to also keep allergen load down. If you rent or can’t change things then maybe consider an air purifier. Just make sure they have a HEPA filter and also clean and replace regularly.

Did you know a child’s tube from their nose to their ear is relatively shorter and more flat than an adults? This = more sinus and ear trouble due to stuck mucous.

To prevent too much mucous going to the ears, encourage your child to blow their nose well and often. Snot rockets in the shower where it’s warm and steamy works like a charm.
Also gentle massage of the sinus, base of ears and down the side of the neck may support lymph drainage

Tuina or “medical massage for kids” is very commonly used for kids under 5 years old. There are particular massage moves done on certain parts of the body, like the hand, forearm or back to support their health.

My wonderful membership with HOPA has given me a full booklet for most heath complaints for children. From bed wetting, to fever, fussy eating and more. It’s such an incredible resource and I’m super grateful. An excellent addition to my clinical resources.

As I near 40, teaching is becoming more of a passion of mine. Chinese Medicine is so incredible because the learning potential is infinite and I hope to continue this work until I’m 80+
This online presentation was for a group of world wide pediatric acupuncturists with the HOPA group.
The title- Ear diagnosis and treatment for children.
As practitioners-
We look in the ear to check the health of the actual ear
We look at the shape for diagnostic clues- such as times of sickness and trauma
We notice changes to colour or blood vessels
We know that this ads to a thorough health examination for each child that comes in

I first met Dr Thomas Wernicke in 2015 and completed his trainings of Sho Ni Shin and by golly did it change my TCM life! I started seeing more children, babies and working confidently with scars. This small tool that fits in the palm of my hand has opened up a world of “yes I can see your child if they don’t want needles” In March I’ll be traveling to the UK to meet up with him again and hopefully receive a training license to share his techniques in Australia. I dream to have more acupuncturists say “Yes I treat children and babies” 🍀

My goodness me, I don’t know who passed around the red cordial today!! There was all flavours of behaviour in clinic today and you know what…… I loved it. There’s a wonderful bit of rain coming in after weeks or dry weather and our precious children could FEEL it. LOL I love working with kids- even after a busy and wild day I still feel so lucky 🍀

The home birth acupuncture bag. What’s inside…. So many portable and reliable acupuncture tools. Enjoy

A big 24 hours. I was so lucky and feel so honoured to have witnessed the most magical birth last night 💫 Our little lady was very kind and birthed early in the evening. So a quick and good nights sleep, then back to clinic today. I think I’m still riding the high of new life 💖

These are the “non needle” treatment tools in my clinic. Have a watch and see that there are so many options. For children it’s nothing like an adults experience with acupuncture. That’s why I run separate clinic days for kids and adults.

My last post about daycares was my biggest one yet (suprise!) so here goes for schools 🍀 My personal favourite style of education is Montessori. Why- the learning is child centred and done at their pace and involves their interests. So much of what I believe are ADHD symptoms are just those of disinterest. It is hands on, the environment holds and sets the tone for their self directed learning. Just incredible! Especially for the practical learner like me. My second favourite is Steiner. Now if you have a creative, musical and artistic child I think this is certainly worth looking into. Interestingly the child development phases that Rudolf Steiner really align with Chinese Medicine. The biodynamic gardening, woodwork, hand crafts etc also mean the desk time is minimal.
