One of the joys of undertaking a renovation or older home is the treasures you find...and under the birch trees in the back corner was the previous owners dump zone, rubbish, timber, rocks, bricks...yes old convict bricks, most likely from the old fireplaces that were ripped out of the 1910 house...but they are beautiful, still layered with mortar but retaining a beautiful colour and shape...they will be reused and a new purpose will rise again from them

Update, I successfully removed the hidden window that was partially rotten, and replaced the weatherboards.
The door has been trimmed and no more wildlife can squeeze through the gaps!
I then was on a roll and removed a window and door that were just wrong (too high, wrong shape, wrong timber wrong placement etc). I have just filled the gap for now temporarily until I find the right windows for the space. I removed the rotten wood out of the window and repaired it, I might use that again, not sure yet.
All of this is just a make do situation to make it vermin proof and until I am ready to do whatever it is I am going to do with the place. It's not perfect by any means, it's just practical.

Let's remove a rotten window with minimal tools and a tool I found buried in the yard.
I don't have all the fancy power tools, I have second hand, garage sale tools that "will do the job". Maybe one day I might get the right tools, but for now, let's just see what I can do.
Once the window is out I will trim around the back door and put the boards back. Well that's the goal, let's see what happens

Today's job is actually to fix the back doorway, but before I can do that I have to remove some weatherboards which are hiding a window...why people do this I don't know, but I will take the boards off and see what state the window is in.
I quickly found the window is rotten so I am going to work out how to do that hopefully without smashing it up.
Oohhh look, an old key was found on the sill under the rotten wood....love it!

Ok, I replaced the pipe with a split pipe (stupid rookie mistake, and it exploded water everywhere), so replaced the replacement pipe with a not split pipe and joined it together...did it work??
Thanks everyone for your advice and help, Nick for saying keep digging, Tracy for saying a split pipe, so far so good, no leak, but I will leave it open to dry out and see what happens

Where is this water coming from?? What do I need to do?
There was a wet patch under this hedge area and I thought it was a pipe leak, I found the pipe, the joins and they were a little loose and wet so I cleaned them up and tightened the joins but I have water bubbling up from lower down...what does this mean? Another leak? I have a spring? (I was told there was a well on the property but it was filled it, many years ago, the well location is not exact but maybe about 7-8 metres from this wet spot)

I am clearing the grounds and doing what I do best, recycling and reusing! This is the junk yard, every property has somewhere that is the dumping zone for stuff, and under this tree was the dump zone!
Under the grass was a mountain of rubble, old bricks, rocks, concrete and dirt, it's a slow process, but a lot of the old broken bricks I have used to cover in the 'crawl space' under the garden shed. I haven't concreted them in or anything, they are just sitting there and I will see if they stay put or animals push them away. But, overall I am happy with the result

Don't read this post if you are eating...

When I purchased this home, it was a deceased estate, therefore there was a lot of stuff that was found favourable to rats, pigeons, possums and vandals. Amongst the stuff are these kitchen cabinets, but eewww they are nasty outside and in, but today I sorted them out and I reckon I can recycle them and make them work for me. Today's job was to clean the cabinets; gloves, disinfectant, bleach, face mask, vacuum cleaner, terps, rags, screwdriver, screws, jif, sponges...and now they look presentable! Phew!
I know timber kitchens are coming back, but I am tempted to paint them...your thoughts?
If I keep them timber, then the floor can't be timber...too much wood...give me your thoughts?

Sometimes you just have to ask..."why?"

This is my new project, and possibly my answer to the reason of my being. Throughout my life I have found joy, bliss and happiness in transforming gardens, homes and people.
My very first home in 1987 was a do-up and nearly 40 years later, this house is another.
My new home is a 1910 weatherboard home which has had some serious neglect and destruction. She has some great bones; press tin ceilings, wrought iron work, wide plank floorboards, high ceiling, brick fireplaces, original door hardware and beautiful roses & flowers hidden amongst the chaos.
She also has possums who don't want to vacate their home, 5 doves who are diligently waiting for their owner to return, holes in the ceiling, walls and floors, sloping floors, external rotten boards, half of the house is unliveable...but she beautiful to me!
While I wait for my builder to start, I am plodding around doing my thing, and one of the first things to do is to get some light in...now why would someone put weatherboards over a window? Yes! Two windows in the bathroom have been weatherboarded over...so random and weird. Anyhow, I pulled the boards off and found an old window sill and some trims in the junk yard (yes, this place has a junk yard too!) and with my trusty chainsaw, opened it up and sealed it back again. Why my chainsaw? Cause I can't find my power tools yet! That is on my list to-do-today job.
This is only a temporary job, new windows and weatherboards will be installed in the 'big plan'.
But today, I see the light!
