🏀 This is a picture of me testing full shoulder ranges approximately 4 weeks after tearing my AC joint in a national basketball game (impact injury).

🏀Highly motivated to rehab my shoulder in time to play finals, I worked diligently with Pilates rehab and managed to play 10 days post injury! 7 years on and I wouldn’t even know that I’d ever injured it!

💚I LOVE Pilates and I’m passionate about helping other people achieve these results. Athlete or not, we want to move and feel our best, right?

🔺Shoulder issues don’t just happen with an impact injury. In fact, most people I see have sustained an injury from years of wear and tear. This is usually a result of faulty movement patterns that they are unaware of!

⭐️The good news is, we can help change these patterns and see amazing results!

⭐️HANDY HINT: as I take my arms overhead, I focus on externally rotating the humeral head into the shoulder socket (as if my palms are facing behind me) and I sink the arms right down into the socket - this helps me activate my lats so that my upper traps don’t overwork and this takes the pressure off the shoulder joint - best practiced laying in supine first. Find a Pilates professional near you to guide you through this rehab for feedback!

🧘🏻‍♀️I’m Ali, I’ve been a Pilates teacher for 20 years and an occupational therapist for 17 years. I moved to Tassie many years ago to play basketball, met my husband here and we now have 3 darling boys and a dog.

❤️ We opened Hudson Pilates back in 2010, outgrew a few spaces and then landed in our current purpose built space. We love the vibe of our Pilates community (of all ages, levels and abilities) and that we get to be a part of their wellness journey!

🔥 I am passionate about helping people feel empowered when it comes to looking after their body and having longevity doing the things they love!

🍃I believe in the innate intelligence of the body, if we treat it well, we can both prevent dysfunction and also do some pretty amazing healing.

💚 I love that Pilates and holistic modalities can have such a powerful positive effect on the whole family!

🧘🏻‍♀️ I have a fabulous team of instructors around me, each bringing their own unique background and talent for helping our clients go deep into the work of Pilates. We have such an eclectic mix of professionals teaching Pilates at the studio.. a nurse, chiropractor, martial artist, teacher, admin clerk and a designer, who have all trained comprehensively in classical or contemporary clinical Pilates or a mixture of both!

🧘🏻‍♀️Pilates is about finding the deep connections and the most efficient muscle firing patterns to achieve pain free, flowing movement. Good instruction and feedback is key! The ripple effect of just one hour per week will astound even the fittest of athletes!

With much sadness, our Pilates community (along with our Latrobe basketball club and many other parts of the broader community) is grieving the loss of John Perkins. Recently, another client asked “where’s John this week? He’s such a lovely man and such a fun character” ...and that he was. A man who constantly served the community (he did Pilates so that he could continue to umpire local footy while supporting local business). An energy larger than life, always willing to lend a hand, support a mate (and an entire sporting club), have a chat, and have a laugh - especially at himself!

I’ll miss our lengthy chats about all things sport and life in general. And I’ll miss the laughs. Our hearts go out to Pam, Shannon, and all of his beloved children and grandchildren that he spoke of so fondly and so often in our presence. Rest In Peace John, may the legacy you left in the sporting world and beyond, live on.. you, my friend, will be dearly missed.

🔹It’s not always easy to find time for a workout and sometimes mine look like this 😂but boy do I feel better for it..

🔹Even a 10 minute routine like this is enough to decompress the vagus nerve for a sense of calm and an endorphin release 🧘🏻‍♀️
