As Australia’s peak breastfeeding and information service the Australian Breastfeeding Association (ABA) is there for Australian women and families – giving time, understanding, support and information to mothers. Devonport and the surrounding area falls within the boundaries of ABA's Northern Tasmania Group. Visit our webpage at aba.asn.au/northerntasmania for more information about local services. Our qualified breastfeeding counsellors and community educators are volunteers trained in breastfeeding education, who volunteer their skills and time to support families through the many free services ABA provides as a not-for-profit organisation. ABA local group meetups, the National Breastfeeding Helpline 1800 686 268, ABA LiveChat, the mum2mum app, breastfeeding.asn.au, the podcast 'Breastfeeding ... with ABA' and our social media groups are some of our free services. Other services provided by ABA’s volunteers include breast pump hire, our Breastfeeding Preparation Session antenatal breastfeeding education webinars, health professional seminars and more. Membership helps ABA maintain and provide first-class breastfeeding and parenting support services. Additional resources are provided to members to support them with their babies and mothering. Join and receive the ABA’s e-book 'Breastfeeding: a practical guide', the quarterly magazine 'Essence', FULL REFUND on your Breastfeeding Preparation Session live webinar, discounts on breast pump hire, unlimited access to the ABA parenting village of ABA local group activities and premium content on the mum2mum app. To find out more visit aba.asn.au/member

We had several volunteers from the Devonport area supporting ABA's Feed and Change for parents at Agfest this year - thank you all for your enthusiasm and your time - we hope it was enjoyable!

🔗 aba.asn.au/northerntasmania

Volunteers with the Australian Breastfeeding Association in Tasmania facilitated the Baby Feed and Change facility over three days at Agfest recently - with a number of volunteers travelling long distances and some even helped out on more than one day!

Over the three days our volunteers showed initiative, kindness, flexibility and dedication. Thank you all, for giving your time, travel and effort to this important family facility - we hope you enjoyed volunteering with ABA. This is an important facility to provide for Tasmanian families, and it relies on the willingness of volunteers like you!

Today is International Day of the Midwife. In Australia midwives teach mums during pregnancy about breastfeeding, they are present during labour and birth and they are also there to support baby’s first breastfeed.

The International Confederation of Midwives theme for IDM 2025 is 'Midwives: critical in every crisis' and reminds us that midwives can really make a difference to people’s lives, by helping health services prepare for readiness, and providing safe births and care and by supporting breastfeeding.

To all our midwives in Tasmania: thanks for all you do every day - and for what you can offer in a time of crisis.
