CORES Australia delivered their Su***de Prevention and Intervention Training here at our Devonport Medicare Mental Health Centre.

This training is designed to provide individuals and communities with the essential skills and resources required to identify and respond to a person at risk of su***de and build on a community’s capacity to eliminate su***de.

It was a deep, meaningful, and educational day and all attendees took away valuable information that can help be a part of the response to preventing and eliminating su***de.

We thank CORES for the training and keep an eye out for more events coming to our Centre and the NW soon.

It was such a privilege to host the Tasmanian Su***de Prevention Community Network Meeting today. It was an incredible turn out of people and services doing deeply important work all over Tasmania.

This is a chance to connect, share knowledge, and collaborate with others working to strengthen su***de prevention across Tasmania.

🎤 We heard from:
• Shannan Maciejewski – Our own Community Engagement Coordinator here at Devonport Medicare Mental Health Centre
• Kyle Moyle – Assistant Director of Lived Experience, Open Arms - Veterans & Families Counselling- Veterans & Families Counselling
• Alex Morse & Jenny Mountney – Members of the Exhale Community Choir
• Department of Health, Tasmania – A direct update on current initiatives, priorities, and how they are strengthening su***de prevention efforts across Tasmania.

The Messages of Hope book was also on display which is a growing story of Tasmanians supporting each other 🌱

We were also lucky to have the very talented Exhale Choir perform a song for us to finish off the meeting.

Thank you to everyone that came along and to the amazing TSPCN team.

The Physiological Sigh

A breathing technique you can use to quickly calm your nervous system and give yourself a moment.

Here's how to do a physiological sigh:

- Take a deep breath in through your nose, followed immediately by a second shorter breath, then a long slow breath out through your mouth until your lungs are empty.

- For immediate relief 1-3 times is effective at reducing stress and improving mood. Research has also shown that 'Cycle Sighing' which involves 5 minutes daily practices of breathing exercises can help reduce overall stress, anxiety, and improve sleep.

Taking some time out for deep focused breaths is a quick way to reset and some self care.

Launceston MMHC went to visit the new Tasmanian Eating Disorder Services (TEDS) facility for Northern Tasmania.

This new facility will provide specialist care through community-based intensive treatment, including individual therapy as well as day and evening programs, allowing people to remain connected to their everyday lives while accessing care.

Supporting the Tasmanian community and building relationships with individuals and services doing amazing work is an important part of what we do at our Medicare Mental Health Centres.

Yesterday, we had the opportunity to visit the new Tasmanian Eating Disorder Services (TEDS) facility for Northern Tasmania. 💚

It was encouraging to see Tasmania’s first community-based eating disorder treatment centre taking shape in Launceston. The space has been designed to feel welcoming and home-like, with therapy and consultation rooms, a shared kitchen and dining area, and therapeutic outdoor spaces.

This new facility will provide specialist care closer to home through community-based intensive treatment, including individual therapy as well as day and evening programs, allowing people to remain connected to their everyday lives while accessing care.

We had valuable conversations about future plans and the ongoing development of the service and its programs, and we’re excited about the positive difference this will make for Tasmanians - particularly those living in the north of the state. 🌟
