Fresh Pine Needle Tea🌲💚
I’m always looking for new herbal inspiration and I’m incredibly grateful that my new garden has plenty!!
So many beautiful fruit and nut trees and also an epic Pine tree😍
With a constant abundance of Pine needles I thought I’d research different ways to use them. When I’ve built my new chicken coop/palace I’ll be using them in the chook’s nesting boxes to keep away mites and parasites and on the ground as the girls like to scratch around in them. I’ll also be creating a number of new pine needle recipes.

Today I’m making fresh Pine needle tea🌲🫖
You might remember around the time of the pandemic many people were using this tea to help protect against the virus.
Some of Pine’s key actions are:
🌿Supporting the Immune System
🌿Shortening the duration of colds/flus
🌿Loosening up mucus
🌿Easing coughs and soothing sore throats
🌿Anti-inflammatory
🌿Supports the heart and the circulatory system

Please note, be sure to check the species of pine tree as there is a toxic pine in Australia - Ponderosa Pine, but this isn’t the common pine we see around a lot.

Today I prepared a special blend of flower essences and homeopathics for the rescued sheep from the Longwood bushfires now safe at Edgar’s Mission💗
These beautiful, gentle souls have endured so much — surviving the fires and now beginning their journey of healing from the trauma they experienced.
Within the blend I included several Australian Bush Flower Essences:
• Mulla Mulla — used to support recovery from fire trauma
• Fringed Violet — for the shock/trauma
• Grey Spider Flower — to ease fear and terror

I’ve added the remedy to the sheep’s water troughs so they can receive gentle support throughout the day.
The Edgar’s Mission team has rescued a number of sheep from the fires around Longwood and continues to return weekly to save as many as possible. I was fortunate to join one of these rescue days — truly epic efforts from all involved, our team searching large burnt out acreage to locate and safely bring the sheep home to sanctuary where they receive the loving care and medical attention they need to begin their healing💗🙏🏼

A quick harvest of the garden before the extreme heat sets in. The garden has an abundance of Lavender, Rosemary and Marndarines so I thought I’d get creative with them. I’m going to make some herbal vinegar cleaning sprays, a rosemary vinegar hair rinse, do some cooking with the mandarins and create whatever else I can think of with the leftovers🌿I’m really loving having such an abundant garden again🙏🏼💚

Two years ago this week, I began volunteering at animal sanctuary 🐷❤️ It has been one of the most rewarding and fulfilling experiences of my life.
Over the past two years, I’ve had the opportunity to help in a wide range of roles, from caring for the sanctuary by cleaning animal yards and keeping their homes comfortable, to assisting with school tours and kids’ holiday programs. I’ve helped feed the many birds, supported Joan the sheep with her rehab, spent time reading with the animals, and am now continuing to broaden my role by working more closely with sanctuary staff to assist with animal care.
I feel incredibly grateful to have found Edgar’s Mission, to be a small part of such a special place and to be able to support these beautiful animals—many of whom have come from challenging pasts and simply need kindness, love and care🐷🐑🐔🫏
Thank you to the amazing Pam Ahern for creating such a special sanctuary for the animals and for her guidance and support 🙏🏼💗

My day in a heatwave🥵
My volunteer shift at was cancelled due to the catastrophic fire risk. Was troubled by not being there to help the animals if there was a fire but knew I couldn’t go. Seems I was needed elsewhere, managed to help a range of animals on my travels!
Started the day putting water dishes out in the garden for the wildlife🐦‍⬛🦊🐝 always put rocks and sticks in the dishes as perches for wildlife so they don’t drown in the water.
Then drove up to the country to pick up my Mum and bring her back to my house to keep her safe as she was near the fires. On the way there sadly removed these deceased animals from the road💔- a wallaby (did a pouch check), kitten and blue tongue lizard😢
On the way home found a gorgeous lost Labrador on Yan Yean road - starving and thirsty. Fed and watered him and popped him in the back of the car, took him to the vets for microchip scan, they found his owners 👏🏼👏🏼
Then offered to check on some chickens, decided to bring them home to my place for the night to get them out of the 45 degree heat. The chickens had a lovely night in front of the aircon, eating greens and berries and scratching in a basket of pine needles🐓❤️

Hypericum (St John’s Wort) solar infused oil💛
Love this time of year when there’s an abundance of Hypericum growing in the bush. I wildcrafted a huge bunch on my hike yesterday, then spent hours last night picking the flowers off the stems and made them into an infused oil. I often use Hypericum oil in skin creams I make in clinic for clients with Eczema, Shingles/Herpes, inflammation, nerve pain, etc. Infused oils are so easy to make, I will often make them with Calendula and Nettle too.

Recipe🌼
Fill jars with flowers, top with organic olive oil.
Leave the jar sealed on the window sill in the sun for a few weeks. Turn occasionally.
After 3 weeks strain the oil off, keep the oil in a sealed jar in the fridge. This can be used directly on the skin or added to a cream. I use a rich Vitamin E cream base and add other infused oils, herbs and essential oils depending on the condition 🌼💛

How I spend my week off relaxing 😂
Day 1 - the overgrown mass that was my new front garden, started with cutting everything back and digging out plants / weeds.
Day 2 (this morning) getting rid of the green waste and pressure washing the pavers 💪🏼 Who knew I had such a nice little courtyard under all that mess! Found some beautiful roses and irises in amongst it🌹💗
Gardening is so good for my soul, I find it so replenishing, fills my cup and helps me find my centre after a huge year🌿🙏🏼
