Peak Performance Podiatry

Peak Performance Podiatry A Sports & Exercise podiatry clinic in Canberra. Located in Dickson, City Centre & Braddon

OUR STORY:
Peak Performance Podiatry began as vision from Principle Podiatrist & Founder Patrick Doan. When starting as young professional in Canberra in 2014, Patrick had a passion for sports & exercise podiatry but found that there was no podiatry clinic that offered a full optimal podiatry and rehabilitation set-up with a performance gymnasium, testing technology or running track to maximise patient outcomes after injury. There were also a limited amount of qualified credentialed podiatrists with special interests and experience that Patrick could undergo further training in sports and exercise podiatry from in Canberra. So fast tracking 7 years later by 2022 Patrick had took upon himself complete a Master of High Performance Sport at ACU in 2018, and to be the first podiatrist in Australia to be a registered Exercise & and Sports Science Australia (ESSA) Exercise Scientist and Level 2 Sports Scientist and the only podiatrist in Australia with Australian Strength & Conditioning Association (ASCA) Professional Coaching Accreditation Scheme (PCAS) Professional and Level 2 strength & conditioning accreditation. To reach the level of PCAS Professional which is the minimum standard to work in professional sport in the roles of rehabilitation and strength & conditioning, Patrick had to be mentored and have exposure in professional sporting structures for over 5 years. Patrick draws experience with working at Vikings Rugby, Brumbies Rugby at the Academy and Junior Academy in Athletic Rehabilitation; he was the Head of Athletic Rehabilitation for the Canberra Raiders Junior Representative program; also spent 5 years as a strength & conditioning coach at Senior Division 1 AFL and NEAFL at the Belconnen Magpies and 2 years at Wodonga Bulldogs in athlete rehabilitation at the start of his career. He has over 7 years experience as a podiatrist and 10 years experience in sport/rehabilitation. Our Dickson location has an onsite gymnasium, synthetic grass track, latest validated objective testing technology. Our Mission:

To be the center of excellence for bridging the gap between science and practical application of Sports & Exercise Podiatry

Our Core Values:

๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ SMA 2025 Conference โ€“ Hobart ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ | Thank you ASICS & Sports Medicine Australia

A huge thank you to ASICS Australia for supporting the Sports Medicine Australia Conference in Hobart, and to SEPA for curating an outstanding lineup of podiatry and biomechanics sessions. Always a privilege to learn, connect and collaborate with some of the best minds in sport and exercise science. Patrick was in Hobart last week for some professional learnings.

๐Ÿ’ก Conference Highlights:
๐Ÿ‘Ÿ Prof Nick Brown (QUT) โ€“ Refshauge Lecture: โ€œAn intersection of sports podiatry with musculoskeletal and sports biomechanics research.โ€ A brilliant reflection on the evolution of our understanding of foot function, from rigid models of the past to the dynamic, adaptable systems we now recognise in human movement.

๐Ÿ‘Ÿ SEPA Symposium โ€“ โ€œTreating the Trailblazerโ€ โ€“ A deep dive into the biomechanics, load management and footwear demands of trail running, featuring Madeleine Murray, Michael Nitschke, Matthew Clarke, and Thomas Do Canto. Fantastic discussion bridging clinical application and real-world experience from some of Australiaโ€™s top clinician-athletes.

๐Ÿ‘Ÿ Dr Enda King (Aspetar, Qatar) โ€“ Keynote on ACL Rehabilitation: Redefining return-to-play decision-making through objective biomechanical profiling, symmetry restoration and performance-based readiness.

๐Ÿ‘Ÿ Dr Michelle Smith (UQ) โ€“ Ankle Arthritis: What We Know and Donโ€™t Know. A powerful reminder of the need for more research into post-traumatic ankle OA and early-stage interventions for active populations.

๐Ÿ‘Ÿ RED-S Symposium (Tasmanian Institute of Sport) โ€“ Practical strategies for prevention and early intervention through multidisciplinary collaboration โ€“ a model of true athlete-centred care.

๐Ÿ‘Ÿ ASICS Presentation โ€“ Biomechanics-Informed Design of Working Footwear
Great to see innovation extending beyond performance sport to occupational settings, showing how biomechanics continues to shape product design for all forms of movement.

A big congratulations to Sports Medicine Australia, ASICS, SEPA, and all presenters for an inspiring few days of science, sport and collaboration.

Weโ€™re looking forward to integrating these learnings across Peak Performance Podiatry Canberra โ€” from injury rehabilitation and orthotic design to athlete load management and footwear optimisation.

๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ Weโ€™re back in the clinic this week as marathon and running season hits full stride in the middle of spring!

Our Sports & Exercise Podiatrist Pat took on the Nike Melbourne Marathon Half (21.1 km) over the weekend โ€” race-testing the new ASICS Sonicblast through its paces.
The verdict? A worthy successor to the Magic Speed 4 โ€” lightweight, firm, and stable with a race-ready feel that lived up to expectations. The fit is generous even with orthotics. Foam is soft but resilient to still feel compliant after 21km. A great shoe that is not too high in stack like other shoes currently in the market.

Whether youโ€™re training for your next event or just getting back into running this spring, nowโ€™s the perfect time for a gait and running footwear assessment to keep you moving at your best. ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ

๐Ÿ“ Peak Performance Podiatry โ€” helping you move better, run stronger, and perform longer.

๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ Marathon Season is Here โ€“ and So Are the Shoes Weโ€™re Testing ๐Ÿ”๏ธ

Weโ€™re deep into marathon and trail season โ€” which means plenty of kilometres on the road and on the trails. Over the past few weeks weโ€™ve been putting some of the latest performance shoes through their paces to see how they stack up for both endurance and recovery:

ASICS Megablast โ€“ maximum rebound and long-run comfort - soft foam with new ATPU compound.
ASICS Sonicblast โ€“ lightweight option with surprising stability and firmness (our faviourite)
Brooks Running Hyperion Max 3 โ€“ snappy, but stable bouncy feel for long tempo sessions
Nike Vomero Premium โ€“ plush daily trainer with serious mileage legs, 55mm stack!
ASICS Fuji Trabuco MT โ€“ rugged grip and underfoot protection for the mountain miles -- speed hiking specialist.

Each shoe brings a different feel, geometry, and midsole character โ€” and weโ€™re testing them across tempo runs, long runs, and hiking trails to see where they truly shine (and where they donโ€™t).

Thinking about your next race or trail adventure?
Book in for a gait analysis or footwear consultation โ€” weโ€™ll match your training needs, biomechanics, and running goals to the right setup for your feet. Book online or email us to get started!

Pat was proud to be part of the Sydney Marathon Medical Team, presented by ASICS.

This yearโ€™s event was one for the history books, with Hailemaryam Kiros storming home to win in 2:06:06 โ€” the fastest marathon ever run on Australian soil. The Sydney Marathon also cemented its status as the seventh member of the Abbott World Marathon Majors, joining the ranks of Boston, London, Chicago, Berlin, Tokyo, and New York.

Our clinicians at Peak Performance Podiatry are no strangers to acute injuries, and working trackside at one of the worldโ€™s most prestigious marathons gave us the opportunity to support athletes through every step of their race journey.

A huge congratulations to all participants who took on the challenge and made this event unforgettable.

Whether youโ€™re recovering from the marathon, building towards your next race, or managing those training niggles, our team is here to help you move better, perform stronger, and stay injury-free. Book your appointment today.

This past weekend in Sydney was all about combining professional growth with a little race-day adrenaline.

We kicked off with continuing professional development sessions, meeting with sports podiatrists to deep-dive into the latest in research, footwear technology, and orthotics innovation. Exciting conversations, fresh ideas, and new grounds covered.

The weekend culminated with City2Surf, where we put the ASICS Magic Speed 4 through its paces โ€” a race shoe built for the everyday runner โ€” and it did not disappoint.

Weโ€™re back in the clinic now, bringing those insights straight to our patients and athletes.

A big thank you to Scarpa Australia for visiting the clinic and bringing us up to speed with their latest developments in hiking and trail footwear ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ๐ŸŒฟ and providing us samples for shoe feedback.

We had some great discussions around the features that matter most to our patients โ€” including shoe width options, in-shoe volume, and adaptability for custom orthotics. These are critical considerations, especially for individuals managing foot conditions or requiring additional support on uneven terrain.

We also explored the needs of patients preparing for extended treks and walking holidays abroad โ€” including big walks across Europe like the Camino de Santiago or Tour du Mont Blanc. Ensuring appropriate footwear for multi-day hikes is essential to avoid injury and maintain comfort over long distances.

Thanks again to the Scarpa team for your time, expertise, and ongoing support in helping us deliver the best outcomes for our active patients. We pride ourselves on being on the forefront of all podiatrist informed shoe technology here in Canberra.

Just in time for spring ๐ŸŒฟ โ€” new tech has landed at Peak Performance Podiatry!

Weโ€™ve just received a shipment of ATPU โ€” a microcellular aliphatic TPU foam designed to bring cutting-edge performance materials into your custom orthotics.

This foam is produced using thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) and clean supercritical carbon dioxide as a blowing agent, creating thousands of uniform microcells within the matrix. The result? A supercritical foam feel you'd normally find in high-end daily trainers or carbon-plated racing shoes โ€” now available in your orthotics.

Expect lightweight cushioning, enhanced rebound, and durable performance โ€” all tailored to your feet. Perfect for runners prepping for spring races who want that high-performance feel underfoot โ€” without sacrificing support.

Ask us how ATPU-infused orthotics can give your spring run gear the edge!
