Ligaments, what are they?
They are a tightly packed bundle of collagen fibres that connect bones to bones.
They provide some stability to joints and also assists in controlling movement, more specifically the direction the joint can move.

Ligaments can be injured too, they are usually measured in grades, these being 1, 2 or 3.

Depending on the severity of the injury your treatment may be slightly different. However all grades of ligaments injuries require a well designed strength and conditioning program.

Have you ever heard someone say that they have or have had a “slipped disc”?
To a health professional, a “slipped disc” is actually called a disc herniation.

Let me talk you through it.

A disc herniation occurs when a jelly like substance, which is inside the disc, called the nucleus pulposus breaks through the anulus fibrosis. That’s the outer layer of the disc.

To the individual suffering from a disc herniation, here is what you may feel:
- Intense local pain at the spine around herniation.
- Neurological symptoms, numbness and tingling in limbs depending on where herniation occurs. (Cervical: neck, lumbar: lower back).
- Most commonly a herniation can occur from a quick movement, such as picking up a bag from the floor. Intense local pain at the injury sight will be felt almost immediately.

If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms or know of someone experiencing these symptoms. Reach out and let’s get you moving pain free again.
