Less is often more in manual therapy.
As practitioners, we naturally build up lots of skills and techniques over time. But using everything in one session isn’t always better—in fact, it can sometimes overwhelm the body.
The nervous system works on thresholds. When someone is already in pain, even small inputs can create a strong response. Adding too many techniques at once can “stack” those inputs and lead to increased sensitivity—or even more pain.
The key isn’t doing more—it’s doing what’s right for that person in that moment.
Great treatment comes from asking:
• What does this client need today?
• Which technique will help most right now?
• How much is enough?
Your body responds to the information it receives. The goal of treatment is to provide the right input—not the most.
Focused, thoughtful care will always outperform trying to do everything at once.
