Reset In 5 Moment!

Time for a 5 Minute Reset.

Take a moment, notice 1 thing you can see.
Allow yourself to fully focus on that 1 thing.
What are you noticing about it? Perhaps it's the size & shape? Is it textured or smooth? Does it look heavy or light?

What else are you aware of?

Reset In 5 Moment - Sight

Time for a 5 Minute Reset.

Take a moment, notice 1 thing you can see or sense. It may even be something you are holding right now, like a cup or book.

Allow yourself to fully focus on that 1 thing.

What are you noticing about it? Perhaps it's the colour, size & shape? Do you sense shade or light? Is it textured or smooth? Does it look heavy or light?

What else are you aware of?

This is a visual story for explaining what happened in Bondi, that has been created especially for younger neurodivergent kids.

For parents who may be struggling with their own thoughts, feelings, and emotions, who may be unable to explain what happened in simple age appropriate terms, you may find this useful.

It has no sound, uses simple, emotionally neutral, factual information.

Thank you to Australian Neurodivergent Parents Association - ANPA and Regional Autistic Engagement Network for providing

If you are finding the tragic event that occurred in Bondi difficult to process, or if a child or family member needs support, please, reach out and talk to someone.

Even if you would like help to find the right words to help your child to process this, it’s ok to call for advice.

They are there to listen.

Your neurodivergent child may not show or articulate they are not coping with the news and some kids do need more time to process. That does not necessarily mean that they are ok.

When you are ready, do talk to them about it. All the reactions are valid.

You can start to gently explain what occurred in age appropriate language, try and avoid showing them the news or any media coverage if you can too. And please try and avoid exposing them (and yourself) to conversations about this event, as emotions, opinions and rumours are equally damaging to young minds.

If you can, keep the language as factual as possible.

Our hearts are with the residents of Bondi and the Australian Jewish community right now.

If you are finding this hard to process, please know your reactions—whether strong emotions or numbness—are valid responses.

There has been a long-standing and harmful myth about Autistic people and empathy. But Autistic people do not lack empathy. In fact many Autistic people experience empathy deeply and intensely, sometimes to the point of overwhelm. When tragedy strikes, that emotional impact can be profound.

Be gentle with yourself. Limit news and social media if you need to. Seek comfort, routine, or trusted connection. And reach out for support if things feel too heavy to carry alone.

Reset In 5

Digital Detox time!

Time to turn off your phone, device, or watch or switch them to silent mode and put on "do not disturb".

Take a moment to simply "Be", and begin by noticing all the objects around you.

What are they? Trees or plants outside, pets, or objects on your desk? Perhaps a view in the distance?

Notice their shape, colours, & textures. What else are you aware of?

Turning your attention to your feet (yes).

What do they feel like? What are they on or connected to? What other sensations are you aware of? The sensation of them being in shoes, on carpet or the floor? It's Ok if you can not sense anything, simply be aware of that.

Place, gently your hand on your belly, noticing any rise and fall or internal sounds and movements.

When you're ready, allow yourself to come back to the here and now, go for a walk or get up and stretch before going back to whatever it was that you were doing.

Love & Light

Reset In 5 Moment - Taste

Time for a 5 Minute Reset.

Take a moment, notice 1 thing you can taste or sense in or around your mouth.

Allow yourself to fully focus on that 1 thing.

What are you noticing about it? Perhaps it's the lingering flavour of something you may have eaten or drunk? Is it pleasant or unpleasant? Is it a "light", delicate taste or a strong taste?

Or maybe there is nothing at all. Perhaps it's simply the sensation of saliva or the texture of your teeth against your tongue, inside of your cheeks. Whatever it may be, simply notice.

Reset In 5 Moment - Smell

Yes, it's time for a 5 Minute Reset.

Sometimes, we forget to notice this particular sense, and every so often, it's a lovely way to ground ourselves.

So, take a moment, notice what you may be able to smell in the air around you.

What are you noticing? Perhaps there is no smell at all, or a variety of smells?

Perhaps it's on the clothing that you are wearing? Perfume? Is it soft or strong? Does feel nice or unpleasant?

What else are you aware of? Take a moment to notice one thing about that smell, simply notice.

This is such a fantastic initiative by Reframing Autism and the Olga Tennison Autism Research Centre.

It's so important to build understanding, create a sense of acceptance and inclusion within the school environment.

My son, now finished secondary school, was constantly bullied and excluded. The was such a lack of understanding, mainly from other students, and some staff.

He had a great support team that helped us get through, despite this, and we are forever grateful. But it could have been a whole lot easier if there had been more education about his differences.

Education about what it is to be autistic, neurodivergent, is incredibly important. Look out for the LEANS Australia program!

Thanks to Reframing Autism ❤️👏🏼

Why Essential Oils?

Why did I start this page? Well, it started quite some time ago, about 15 years or so now, when I first was formally introduced to theses wonderful oils. I had always been interested, and had used essential oils purely for pleasure, usually in an oil burner up until then.

I say formally, as prior to that moment I had had no real education in the use of essential oils. I had just pottered about, choosing oils that smelled good to me, and that made me feel good. As part of my Certificate in Therapeutic Massage course, we were all required to study Aromatherapy. My tiny mind was blown, when I was introduced to the wide variety of applications these oils could be used for! Thanks to the wonderful Sue Cook, who trained with the amazing Robin Minski.

The Aromatherapy course did focus our training around the benefits of using these oils in Therapeutic Massage, teaching us which oil to use for the mood of the client, to help uplift, calm down, refresh, etc., we were taught how the oils could help illness and to injuries to contraindications of oils for certain illnesses, chronic or acute. And what AMAZED me the most was we only used 10 essential oils to do this!

It was inspiring to say the least! It also started me thinking, what about other essential oils? What can they do? So off I went, teaching myself, researching (if you know me, you know I love to research), a bit of trial and error along the way (which is great way to learn).
