The Story of the Shambhala Yoga Shala
In 2017, the Shambhala Yoga Shala was born from a shared vision between Craig and Chrissy—two hearts aligned through yoga, love, and a deep connection to the land. It began not as a studio, but as a one-time retreat. After meeting in Bali during a teacher training, they returned to Shambhala Farm with a dream to host a single healing event on the grass. But with the Sunshine Coast weather in mind, they built a simple roof for shelter.
That shelter became a sacred space.
What started as a temporary structure quickly revealed itself as something more—a Shala, a spiritual home in nature. Built with secondhand trusses, repurposed greenhouse posts, and a vision of love, the Shala became a place where yoga, community, and connection to land could thrive.
Over the years, it evolved through many beautiful chapters. Through it all, the Shala remained rooted in service, not profit. It was never meant to be a commercial studio. Its intention was to offer a healing space in nature, a place where people could reconnect to themselves and the earth.
But as the program grew, so did the demands. Managing memberships, schedules, cleaning, and communications became a full-time behind-the-scenes effort for Craig and Chrissy, especially while raising two young children and running other regenerative projects on the farm.
Recent storms caused damage to the Shala’s aging infrastructure, especially the temporary floor, which prompted deep reflection. And with love and clarity, they’ve made the decision to close this current chapter of the Shala’s journey.
This is not the end of the Shala, it’s simply a pause.
To all who practiced, gathered, connected and grew here, thank you. When the time is right, it will take on a new shape, aligned with the heart of regeneration that is Shambhala.
