πŸ’™πŸ’™Celebrating the Women of Katie Rose Cottage Hospice πŸ’œπŸ’œ

On International Women’s Day we pause to recognise and celebrate the remarkable women who form the heart and soul of Katie Rose Cottage Hospice.

Every day, women across many roles bring compassion, strength, skill and generosity to our community. Our nurses and doctors provide extraordinary care and comfort. Our board members guide the vision and future of the hospice with dedication and commitment. Our retail managers, retail volunteers, hospice support team and gardening crew give their time, energy and practical help to keep everything running.

We are deeply grateful to our community volunteers, op shop supporters and passionate fundraisers who stand beside us and help ensure the hospice can continue its work. Each contribution, whether large or small, helps create the warm, caring environment that Katie Rose Cottage Hospice is known for.

Today we also honour the brave and courageous women who have passed through the hospice as patients. Their strength, dignity and stories stay with us always and remind us why this work matters so deeply.

To every woman who cares, supports, volunteers, leads, gives and inspires, thank you. You are the heartbeat of Katie Rose Cottage Hospice.

Today we celebrate you.

Happy International Women’s Day.πŸ’œπŸ’™

At Katie Rose Cottage Hospice, our purpose has always been simple:
to walk alongside people and families during one of life’s most difficult times, with compassion, dignity and care.
Hospice care is different to hospital care. It is not about throughput or bed numbers. It is about time, presence, comfort, and supporting both the person who is dying and the people who love them. Much of this care happens quietly; in homes, at bedsides, and behind the scenes, and isn’t always visible in statistics or comparisons.
Katie Rose Cottage Hospice exists because our community believed this kind of care should be available close to home. Every family we support, every nurse we retain, and every volunteer who gives their time reflects that shared value.
We know there are strong and thoughtful views about how hospice and palliative care should be funded and delivered. These are important conversations, and we respect the experience and passion people bring to them. At the same time, our responsibility is to ensure that care is delivered safely, ethically and sustainably.
Right now, our focus is on supporting families in our community, keeping our nurses in place, and ensuring the hospice can continue to exist for those who will need it in the future.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who has supported Katie Rose Cottage Hospice over the years; through donations, volunteering, advocacy and care. Your support has mattered, and it continues to matter.
Thank you for being part of this community πŸ’™

πŸ’™ We Need Our Community Now More Than Ever πŸ’™
Katie Rose Cottage Hospice exists because this community believes that no one should face the end of life alone. Every day our nurses, carers and volunteers walk beside families during their hardest moments with compassion, dignity and care.
But we cannot continue this work without your help.
Only a small portion of our costs are funded. The rest relies on community support. Right now, rising costs and growing demand mean we urgently need donations to keep our doors open and our services running.
If you have ever supported us, been touched by our work, or simply believe in compassionate end-of-life care, please consider giving today. Even a small donation makes a real difference.

A message to our community πŸ’™
Katie Rose Cottage Hospice has shared an update today regarding funding pressures and development timelines.
Due to absence of increased state funding and reduced donations, we have had to temporarily pause patient admissions. This decision ensures we can deliver care safely and to the standards our guests deserve.
Our op shops and warehouse sales remain open and continue to support our work, and we’ll recommence admissions as soon as funding permits.
Thank you to our community, donors and volunteers for standing with us. πŸ’™

We have another beautiful customer story from our Op Shops to share!
❀️
Monique (pictured) came in for a sarong but spotted a wedding dress she fell in love with, so she tried it on and it fitted like a glove. She is getting married next month back home in Brazil.
The bride to be put the dress back because she was not planning on buying a dress today and then one of our amazing customers who saw the dress on her, insisted she had to have it as she looked beautiful and then handed her $50 towards it. Tears all round as you can imagine!

We are all so grateful that such kindness exists in our community! We have also since helped Monique to arrange to meet up with the generous stranger when she returns from Brazil to show us and the lovely customer her wedding day photos.

We are also hugely thankful to the lovely person who donated this stunning wedding dress to benefit our Hospice πŸ’™

This will warm the cockles of your heart ❀️

A customer (Monique) came in for a sarong and flip flops but she spotted a wedding dress she fell in love with, so she tried it on and it fitted like a glove. She is getting married next month back home in Brazil.
The bride to be put the dress back because she was not planning on buying her dress today and low and behold one of our amazing customers who saw the dress on her, insisted she had to have it as she looked beautiful then handed her $50 towards it. Tears all round as you can imagine then the stranger gave the money and left.

We are all so grateful that such kindness exists and Monique would love to meet up with the generous stranger when she returns from Brazil to show us and the lovely customer her wedding day photos.
Please contact us so we can pass on your details to Monique. ❀️

Also a huge thank you to the lovely person who donated the beautiful wedding dress. ❀️
