Sunflowers have always held a special place in my heart 🌻
I’ve just finished a new painting, trying a different style — because this year is about stretching myself creatively, experimenting, and saying yes to new techniques. Growth doesn’t happen in comfort zones.
Sunflowers feel especially meaningful to me.
With the passing of my beautiful school friend Georgie, I’ve found myself thinking of her often. Sunflowers were her favourite. Her love of Barrington Basket and her passion for life will always stay with me. Every time the sunflowers bloom here at Mollie’s Farm, I feel a quiet connection — like she’s looking down and smiling.
Over the years I’ve grown them season after season. They bring so much joy — to me and to everyone who visits the farm. Tall, golden, and full of light. I’ve also been enjoying the process of harvesting their petals, drying them, and using them in my tea and soap blends. I love including our NDIS day program participants in this process too — it’s such a mindful and calming experience to share together.
What I love most about sunflowers is their resilience. No matter the weather — wind, rain, heat — they always turn toward the sun.
That inspires me.
To keep looking toward the light.
To keep growing.
To keep trying new things.
And to keep smiling.
