A recent review has found vitamin D can’t be metabolised without sufficient magnesium.
Vitamin D is a vital nutrient required by your body for a wide range of jobs, such as helping to boost your immunity, mood modulation and making your bones and muscles strong.
Magnesium is required for more than 300 biochemical reactions in the body – metabolising vitamin D is an important one! Magnesium is found in a wide range of foods, especially green vegetables, grains, nuts, legumes, and chocolate however it can be difficult to get an adequate supply of magnesium from your diet. Additionally modern lifestyles actually increase your daily requirements significantly! For example, stress can deplete magnesium levels, as can a high consumption of tea, coffee, and alcohol. Exercise can also increase your magnesium requirements.
Think you may be missing magnesium?
During a Naturopathic consultation we can assess your individual requirements and if necessary prescribe a highly absorbable form of magnesium specific to your needs. Your vitamin D levels could thank you!
