A healthy gut microbiome supports so much more than digestion - it plays a role in immunity, mood, inflammation and how well you absorb nutrients.

I’m often asked for guidance about iron supplements as they are notorious for causing digestive upset.

Poorly tolerated forms have been shown to increase inflammation in the digestive tract, further impairing iron absorption.

When working with Clients to increase their iron stores (ferritin) I use a 3 tiered approach:

❇️ Increasing iron rich foods in the diet.

❇️ Utilising gentle forms of iron that effectively increase ferritin stores, often in combination with nutrients that hold iron in the body. Lactoferrin is particularly useful for this action.

❇️ Improving digestive function as your gut microbiome plays an essential role in iron absorption. Specific probiotic strains have been shown to reduce inflammatory markers in the digestive tract and enhance iron absorption.
