If you’re suffering from ITB pain when running, here’s 4 easy exercises you can do in the gym/at home to build some strength and control around your hip and knee.

1) Hip Hitch 3x15 - use a pole for balance, stay tall through your truck and squeeze through the weight bearing hip

2) Standing Hip Abduction 3x12 - use a pole for a balance, find a resistance that challenges you by the 6-8th rep

3) Rear Foot Elevated Split Squat 3x12 - carry the weight opposite arm, keep your hips level, focus on pushing you weight evenly through the lead leg and the trail leg

4) Lateral Step-Down 3x15 - Stay tall and keep your hips level, lightly tap your heel/toe on the ground between every rep

Sports Lab Massage Therapist & Triathlete, Anel Radford, has been with us since the start of 2021. As a former elite-level swimmer and triathlete, Anel has a special interest in sports-related injuries and assisting athletes of all levels to achieve their goals. A few of her career highlights include being a Reserve Triathlete for 2016 Rio Olympic Games and 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

This year, Anel has been focused on half marathon running, and has competed in the Canberra and Sydney half marathons.

Anel is part of our allied health team helping individuals prepare for the upcoming City2Surf, which will be held on the 13th of August 2023.
