focusing your thoughts on: health, digestion, food, nutrition, children, adults, exercise, sleep, harmony, stress, education, shopping, whole food, ageing, seniors, improving health, weight loss, balance hormones, menopause I would like to influence and change negative thinking, transforming those thoughts into something that will help you move forward without regrets. I touch on what you eat in particular, as I believe that if you put the right fuel into your body, it will reward you by performing optimally. Then your body doesn't have to deal with things that it sees as foreign substances and can focus on providing all the right nutrients for the many processes required to function. This will transfer into positive, healthy thinking and questioning. I also believe if you focus on thinking positively and always plan forward to where you want to be - you will get there in the end.

Your brain and your body are one!
And so your mental health and physical health are one!!
The food you eat directly affects the quality of your neurotransmitters. By supporting your physical health with real whole foods, supplying optimal nutrition, you not only reduce inflammation but also are supporting your brain health.

Your gut contains millions of bacteria, many of which produce hormones and chemical signals that travel to your brain via the vagus nerve. These bacteria often come from the foods we eat. And the foods we eat feeds the right bacteria. Eating the wrong so called 'foods' such as processed and sugary foods and seed oils which are deplete in quality nutrients feeds the wrong sort of bacteria in our gut. Having the right bacteria in our gut translates to reduced anxiety and we are able to manage stress easily. We can even feel more relaxed and be able to sleep better.

And so the quality of the food we eat is important if we want a clear mind, the ability to think clearly, concentrate and focus.

In fact, our whole body health can be affected by the food we eat. Processed and sugary foods mess with our hormones upsetting the balance of blood sugars, digestion and metabolism (by affecting our thyroid system).

Eating foods that the body recognises as good nutrition makes a healthy body and mind!

The data on why we should AVOID Junk food is mounting....

An adolescent's brain is still developing.

The brain stops growing in size by early adolescence.
The teen years are all about fine-tuning how the brain works.

The part of the brain behind the forehead, called the Prefrontal Cortex, is one of the last parts to develop and mature in their late 20s. This area is responsible for life skills like making good decisions, reasoning, planning, prioritizing, personality, and social skills.

If you allow your teen to consistently eat junk food, their brain is not able to make healthy NEUROTRANSMITTERS and will increase the chance of developing mental illnesses such as anxiety and depression as well as Diabetes and many other metabolic conditions including being overweight and inflamed.

Neurotransmitters are made in the Gut by Bacteria.
Junk Food will cause pathogenic unhealthy bacteria to live there....
Real whole foods will make healthy neurotransmitters that will allow the adolescent to have a highly functioning brain for the rest of their life!
It is crucial to feed the adolescent body nutrient-dense whole foods! Foods cooked in healthy natural anti-inflammatory oils, like Coconut oil, Ghee, Extra Virgin Olive oil and Flaxseed oil (for salads).
Lots of good quality Protein and non-starchy vegetables is required!!

If you give a person an oversimplified explanation for their depression - that it’s caused by a chemical imbalance, for example - it can cut him off from finding the best solutions for him (or her).

For example, if you’re depressed because you were abused as a child, finding safe spaces to release the undeserved shame you will be carrying is likely what you need.

If you’re depressed because you’re lonely, being ‘prescribed’ to join a group where you get to know other people - as some doctors are doing - will likely help.

If you’re depressed because you’re financially insecure, you need a functioning welfare state and ideally a universal basic income - something we can all fight for together.

For all of the 9 causes of depression & anxiety, there are solutions like this.

But if you give people an inaccurate map of their pain - if you tell them (with good intentions) that it’s just a glitch in their brain - then you can unintentionally cut them off from understanding their distress & solving it.

Of course, irrespective of the cause, for some people chemical anti-depressants give real relief, & for others they don’t, & for some they cause terrible side effects. We can have an adult conversation about them.

But the most important thing we can do is to understand the real underlying causes of depression, & to listen to the deep distress in our society. It’s not a malfunction. It is a signal full of meaning - and we need to hear it, & together, solve it.

Everyone knows loneliness, childhood abuse, financial insecurity & more cause depression. Instead of expressing our pain as rage at each other on Twitter, we should unite to deal with these & other underlying causes. That’s the way we’ll actually reduce depression.

Just sharing this post from my other account for those of you who may not follow me The Way To Health as it relates to mental health and what are we teaching our Children?

The first step to recognising how we stray from eating real whole foods is to identify the reasons why.
I feel a lot of the patterns we learn around eating stems from our childhood…

I remember visiting childhood friends houses for lunch or dinner and was surprised at what they ate as compared to what my family ate.

As I was growing up I was lucky my parents did have some understanding of what a healthy diet was, but even so my mum still was overweight in later life (perhaps after she didn’t have to worry so much about what she fed her children). So she was still influenced by the multinational food companies advertising.

It’s so easy to get caught up in the latest food product, advertising a so called healthy food. Better to be aware and do a little research to learn what really is best for our bodies.

FROM NUTRITION TO NOURISHMENT

Foods and eating are multi-dimensional. In nutrition science, we've spent a majority of time on the physical aspects of nutrients, calories, and fulfilling the body's need for energy. However, there is much more than meets the eye when it comes to food. I believe there is a ripple effect beyond the physical aspects of foods that spans the emotions, thoughts, heart, healing, mind, intuition, and even the subtle aspects of our being.

This year Mother’s Day is causing me to reflect on what it means for me. I feel this is a better option than becoming sad or depressed.
Knowing that millions of other mum’s are celebrating with their families and laughing and hugging and having meaningful conversations…..

I’m by myself, but with my fur babies, as hubby is finishing off much needed repairs (with our son) to our other house so our real estate agent can re-rent it. It sustained much damage during the massive hail storm in February. We have had to repair most of it ourselves as tradies are super busy and unavailable. I was even up on the roof for a few days repairing the ridge capping and cement tiles. 😯 Not bad for someone who used to be so scared of ladders and cleaning out gutters! But you would never find me on a roll-a-coaster!!!

So as I sit here outside in the sun I admit I’m feeling a little lonely. But this is a very familiar feeling. I’m an only child so spent the majority of my childhood alone.

But it’s days like Mother’s Day that remind me of missed friendships, missed connections, missed family. All my children are grown and have their own life to lead.

I have no expectations that they contact me, although they usually do give us a call. ❤️❤️❤️

I am looking forward to becoming a grandma for the first time in September 👏😀
So perhaps things will change? I’m hopeful!

I’m also grateful for the quiet times as this reflection can be healing ❤️‍🩹 as I think on past celebrations with my family.
