F$&k Hate All Love

Last week I said to this group if you don’t bring a reversible jersey we were going to run.

Well one kid forgot.

No complaining, no blaming, and nobody got mad. I said ok.

We either do 20 pushups as a group or the kid who forgot it (not naming) will run 3 suicides.

Not a beat skipped, boys said we do push ups. The kid who forgot said he’d do 4 so everyone could do less.

Another boy said nope, I’ll do an extra one.

I know this isn’t a huge punishment. It’s not a big thing to some.

In today’s world filled of hate, jealousy, envy, and me attitudes who are entitled, my boys chose each other.

Hate isn’t built into people. It’s learned.

1 Serbian Boy
2 Indian boys
1 Sri Lankan Boy

All from different clubs and teams also!

Respectfully had each others back.

Days like today make me think the world has a chance with these young boys who will soon be young men!

Hardwork > Feelings

When you put your feelings to the side.

Fear, Embarrassment, Ego, Anger and you just think about getting better.

#7 Happens

came in and started a year and half ago and wasn’t really up to standard with handles or shooting.

Decided to not worry if anyone was watching. Didn’t worry if it looked great.

Just got better!

Niamh just has had a massive tournament!

She averaged over 10pts a game on a stacked team!

She’s shot an OUTSTANDING 51% from the field! 39% From 3pt line!

Considering the kid didn’t really want to attempt a 3 when she started this is MASSIVE!

That’s not to mention easily one of the most athletic stars in the country who can defend a 1-5 with her speed and strength!

Niamh all of us at TeamEnergy, myself, athletes and parents are proud of you!

You handled yourself with grace and class all week!

Cocky or Confident?

Is it being cocky if it’s true? Are you allowed to say I’m the best today if you’ve showed the whole country you are the best?

I say it’s confident and true. Great players must have a bit of arrogance!

There were harsh words said to this kid. There were tough days in the gym in the heat. A forced NO BASKETBALL rule for 6 days to rest.

Worked and worked

Shot and shot and shot

Same drills, over and over. Boring drills. Boring shooting. Boring Ball handling. Passing hitting targets.

Late nights, early mornings, buses and grandparents hauling her around.

Sitting in her car crying and crying. I said let’s make sure this don’t happen again.

She made sure to correct the mistake. No matter what tomorrow brings. Today you are the best in the country.

Tomorrow however, nobody will care. You will have a giant target on you. You’ll have to compete your ass off day after day and play after play.

Because now YOU ARE THE HUNTED.
Anyone can be good once. But can you hold the spot down?

I guess we shall see.

No matter what.

FEAR

What is it and how do you deal with it?

I’ve been coaching a long time going on 3 DECADES! I’m old I know!

I’ve developed a list of FEARS that basketball players deal with everytime they hit the court!

The list may suprise you!

The list may have one or two that pertain to you and your fears. Some of you may experience all 5 fears separately at different times of the season!

I can tell you this.

These FEARS are almost all self inflicted!
Most our fear comes from a 6 inch gap. That gap… is our brain between our ears!

Take a look at the list! Identify which you deal with! Have a think about the fear.

How it started v How it’s going!

Got a call…. Coach said I’m sending 3 kids. 2 are really good, the other well… she’s coming along.

I made one cry cause I said she don’t play hard enough, one was very average, and well the girl who was just coming along was DAMN GOOD!

A few signing with the then #1 in country, a few transfers due to coaching changes, and found a great fit!

A bunch of points and 2 degrees later one of my favourite kids is now a woman and she’s coming home with a MASTERS DEGREE!

Story ain’t done as NBL1 teams are lining up to take her!

Proud of you you’re a special kid! Can’t wait for you to be home!

Proud

I’m making this post before any announcement!

I truly don’t mind if you do or don’t make this team kid. You came out, for two days, and battled some of the best girls in the state. In fact I’d be willing to say there’s kids here who are arguably the best in the country for their age!

You worked hard, you passed, scored, rebounded and COMPETED!

Most of all I was proud of how you conducted yourself. With class, honour, and a smile! You were an amazing teammate on and off the floor.

I witnessed you pulling girls who were sitting alone in to a group. I saw you handing out high 5s and Good jobs, like it was your job!

Bubs making the team would be awesome, but no matter what, your family is ALWAYS PROUD OF YOU!

We LOVE YOU with all our hearts!

Play you or PLAY FOR US!

Thats the question!

Funny what 7 little girls who’ve never practiced together. Some met for the first time. Coach hadn’t even coached them all.

The 7 girls go out play together. The coach provides a fun, competitive, hard working environment!

Win by 50+

A few girls rep seasons have maybe not been what they had been the past few years. A few girls have had to sacrifice for a few others.

However, they all played their role.

I feel as I am a very good judge of basketball, as it’s my full time job.

Oh BTW, for all you coaches who pick your team! This coach picked hers, kind of with some help! PLAYED EVERY KID ALMOST EVEN! Lifted the girls spirits. The moral is IF YOU PICK THEM, PLAY THEM, because you picked them!!!!!
