Dowerin St John was very fortunate to receive a grant from Dowerin Events Management earlier this year. This grant money was used to buy a new iPad for one of our vans. We record all our information about our patients, observations and clinical notes on the iPads. We also purchased 4 new phones (2 for each van. 1 for the driver and 1 for the attending officers). These phones provide a much needed communication device with head office and apps used by our volunteers. A massive thank you to Dowerin Events Management.

In an emergency, every second counts. By registering your property access codes (like building entry codes, key safe, or lockbox information), you can help paramedics reach you faster when you need help. This simple step ensures that if you cannot open the door yourself—like if you've had a fall—we can still get to you quickly and safely. Lock boxes can be purchased from hardware stores for as little as $20.
To register, simply go to www.stjohnwa.com.au/ambulance-and-health-services/register-your-property-access fill out the form or email dowerin.subcentre@stjohnwa.com.au to book an appointment with Tracy or Kristel.

On Friday we had an unveiling of our replacement van and new corpuls machine. We would like to thank the "Dowerin Friends of the Cemetery " and the "Chittering/Gingin Subcentre " for their very generous contributions towards this project. We had the lovely Pat Woods (a long standing member of Friends of the Cemetery) cut the ribbon. It was also an honour to present Phil Pickering with a certificate and badge recognising over 40 years of volunteer service 👏. Thank you to Marlee's Morish Morsels for the delicious spread of afternoon tea.

With the Field Days this week, here is a friendly reminder of when to call Triple Zero.

You should call Triple Zero (000) if you or someone else is experiencing the following symptoms:
Chest pain or tightness
Breathing difficulties
Uncontrollable bleeding
Severe burns
Poisoning
Unconsciousness or seizures
Numbness or paralysis
A life-threatening injury
On-going fever in infants
Unresponsive

If you are unsure, call Triple Zero (000) and have the situation assessed. Our call takers are trained to assist you in these difficult situations.

If the situation is urgent but not an emergency, check out our advice here:

Western Australians are generally pretty good at knowing when they are facing a life-threatening emergency. St John aims to  arm people with a better understanding of the right time to call an ambulance, and make sure everyone knows what other options are available for assistance or advice.
