Attachment is not simply an emotional idea. It is biological. In the first days, weeks and months of life, babies depend on caregivers to regulate stress, organise arousal, and create a felt sense of safety through touch, voice, rhythm, predictability and attuned care. Early caregiving relationships help shape the infant’s developing nervous system and emotional regulation capacities. Research consistently shows that caregiver responsiveness and co-regulation are central to infant development.

Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month is a time to raise awareness, support victim-survivors, and promote safety, respect, and dignity in all relationships. 🤍

Domestic and family violence can take many forms — not only physical harm, but also emotional, psychological, financial, and coercive control.

It can affect anyone, and often occurs behind closed doors, which is why awareness, education, and support are so important.

If you or someone you know is experiencing harm, support is available. You are not alone.

In Australia, you can contact:
• 1800RESPECT — 1800 737 732 (24/7 confidential support)
• Lifeline Australia — 13 11 14
• The Orange Door — 1800 312 820 (local access to family violence and family services support)
• If you are in immediate danger, call 000.

Healing and support are possible, and reaching out is a strong first step.

Boundaries aren’t mean — they’re necessary for your mental health.

Setting them can feel uncomfortable at first, especially if you’re used to saying yes to everything. But healthy boundaries aren’t about pushing people away — they’re about creating space for your authentic self to thrive.

Your “no” to one thing is a “yes” to something more important: your wellbeing, your energy, your peace of mind.

Practice makes them easier. Which boundary phrase resonates most with you right now, or which one is the hardest for you to say? 💬

Anxiety can become more than “normal” when it feels:

constant or hard to switch off
overwhelming or intrusive
physically intense (racing heart, tension, nausea)
disruptive to sleep or daily functioning
difficult to manage on your own

Many women are surprised by how intense anxiety can feel during pregnancy, especially if they have not experienced it before.

For the first time in Australia, the surveyed over 1,600 young people aged 12–18 about body image.

The findings are clear:
- 90% of teenagers report some level of body image concern
- 45% feel dissatisfied with their body
- Nearly 70% have experienced appearance-related teasing (most commonly at school)

For many young people, this affects confidence, school life, and everyday activities.
Body image concerns are also one of the strongest risk factors for eating disorders.

Early support matters.

At Happy Minds, we support teenagers using evidence-based psychological approaches that help them:
– Build a more balanced relationship with food and body image
– Reduce self-criticism and anxiety
– Strengthen coping and emotional regulation
– Involve families where appropriate

If you’re concerned about your teenager, you don’t need to wait for things to escalate.

When everything feels out of control, the goal isn’t to force calm — it’s to gently guide your thoughts somewhere safer.

Small language shifts can change how the brain processes stress. These phrases don’t erase overwhelm, but they help create space between you and the feeling.

You don’t need perfect control to feel grounded.

Save this for the moments when you feel out of control 🤍

For more support, we provide Psychology and counselling services with telehealth or face-to-face options in Drysdale. To book an appointment, call us on 03 5292 8833 or visit our website https:/www.happyminds.net.au
