🌱 World Infant, Child & Adolescent Mental Health Day – 23 April 2026 🌱

Today is a reminder that your child’s mental health matters just as much as their physical health 💛

From the very beginning, babies and children are developing emotional connections, learning to feel safe, and building the foundations for lifelong wellbeing. Early relationships, nurturing care, and feeling understood all play a powerful role in shaping healthy development.

This year’s focus "Developing Emotional Safety and Preventing Su***de in a Post-Pandemic World" This theme emphasises the critical importance of establishing an emotionally secure environment within communities where infants, children, and adolescents feel supported, heard, and protected. By enhancing early intervention strategies, we can transition from post-pandemic recovery and promote resilience and the safeguarding of young lives.

👶 What can you do as a parent or caregiver?
• Spend quality, connected time together
• Tune into your child’s emotions and respond with warmth
• Reach out for support when things feel challenging
• Remember: small everyday moments make a big difference

As CFHN nurses, we’re here to support you and your family every step of the way. You are not alone in this journey 🤍

Let’s work together to give our children the strongest, healthiest start in life.

Do you have a friend or family member who’s just had a baby? 🤍

If you’re heading over to meet a brand-new little one, it’s important to follow the parents’ lead and be mindful that they’re adjusting to a big life change.
They may need extra rest, space and support during this time 🙌

Let’s talk about baby poo 💩
When you have a newborn, you’re probably spending more time than you ever expected analysing what’s inside their nappy.

The good news? Baby poo can tell you a lot about your baby’s health and how they’re feeding.

Changes in colour and texture are common in the early weeks.
But if you notice a change that concerns you, or if your baby’s poo is red, white or black (after the first few days), it’s important that you see your GP.

Influenza (flu) is serious, but isn’t as scary if you’re vaccinated. A flu vaccine offers you and your child the best protection from serious illness.

The yearly flu vaccine is free for children aged 6 months to under 5 years, Aboriginal children aged 6 months and over, and children with serious health conditions. It is recommended for everyone aged 6 months and over.

If your child is 2, 3 or 4 years old, they can get a free nasal spray flu vaccine in NSW. It is gentle, painless, and needle-free.

Book your family’s flu vaccine today: www.healthdirect.gov.au/nswfluvaccine

April is World Autism Acceptance Month đź’™

It’s a time for all of us to come together to raise awareness, foster acceptance, and help build a society where autistic people feel supported, understood, and included.

Our Child and Family Health Nurses (CFHN) are here to support you. We can assist with early identification, provide guidance, and help connect families to the right services through referrals—ensuring children 0-5 and families get the support they need, when they need it.

Whether we are at home, at school, or in the workplace, the way we show up matters. Supporting autistic colleagues, students, children, and family members can make a real and lasting difference.

This April, join us in creating positive change. Together, we can challenge attitudes, embrace differences, and build a world that works for autistic people and their families.
