Measles Alert in NSW – Stay Safe!
There have been some cases of measles in NSW recently. Measles is a sickness that spreads very easily, so it’s important to be careful and know what to look for.
Symptoms of measles:
🤒 A high fever (feeling very hot)
🤒 A runny nose and cough
🤒 Sore, red eyes
🤒 A red, blotchy rash that starts on the face and spreads to the body
Measles can make people very sick, but the good news is that there is a vaccine that helps protect you! The measles vaccine is safe and works really well. If you’re not sure if you or your child have had the vaccine, you can check this on your Australian Immunisation record or ask your doctor. Anyone born during or after 1966 who has not had their 2 doses of measles vaccination and who has never had measles infection can receive their 2 doses of measles vaccination for free in NSW.
NSW Health is advising people to be alert for signs and symptoms of measles after being notified of a confirmed case who was infectious while visiting locations at Sydney Airport and western NSW.
The case recently returned from South East Asia where there are ongoing outbreaks of measles in several countries including Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
