Hear our Heart Ear Bus Project

Hear our Heart Ear Bus Project A project of the Dubbo and District Parent Support Group for Deaf and Hearing Impaired Inc. Otitis Media is a big problem in children's health.

Our mission is to raise funds to continue our mobile children's ear education/health clinic that travels to schools in Dubbo and Districts. The project teaches ear health prevention and awareness as well as provides an Audiologists to diagnose children's hearing problems. From this we then provide the pathways to care for parents and schools. We also have access to a monthly free supported Ear Specialist clinic in Dubbo and supported Australian Hearing appointments. Our bus has been proudly donated by Sainsbury Automotive in Dubbo and fitted out by Alloy Welding and Ray Tobin signs who provided free manpower. Dubbo City Toyota provides our fuel.our staff are proudly funded by The Walter and Eliza Hall Charitable Foundation. It not only effects and reduces hearing it also causes social issues and learning difficulties. We want to combat this problem and with the communities help we can. Make sure you and your friends take part in one or more of the Hear Our Heart events as you may be saving your own or a relatives child's hearing in the future. 🌞 Hear Our Heart at Wellington Public School and Preschool ! 🌞

This week our Ear Bus visited Wellington Public & Preschool for a huge three-day event and the sunshine turned it on for us!

We were thrilled to welcome President John and Secretary Chris from the Wellington Lions Club, who came to see the bus in action and kindly presented their generous donation. Our Audiometry Nurse Amy and Nurse Screener Dana were proud to accept it on behalf of the project. 💛

A big thank you to the Wellington NSW Lions Club and community for their wonderful support, together we’re helping local kids hear, learn, and thrive! 🚌👂✨

WOW HOW GOOD IS THIS!
Thank you Wellington Public School community for raising awareness of nose blowing for healthy ears. We love it when schools do fundraisers like this as it helps us to spread hearing loss awareness. Volunteer HoH committee member Peter Pringle organised for our human size puppets to join in as well.

🌟 This week we had the pleasure of visiting Playmates Cottage! 🌟

We’re so excited to welcome them back to the Hear Our Heart Project. 🥳

📸 In the first photo you’ll see our Nurse Audiometrist Amy, Chris from Playmates Cottage, and our Nurse Screener Dana in front of the Hear Our Heart bus.

📸 The second photo shows Chris with one of the children at their nose blowing station. Before every hearing check, we ask children to blow their noses. This helps clear the Eustachian tube (the small passage between the middle ear and the back of the nose), making sure we get the most accurate results when testing hearing and middle ear health. 👂💨

We look forward to continuing this wonderful partnership and working together to support ear health in our community. 💛✨

📢 Hear Our Heart at Gulargambone PreSchool & Central School

Today, our Healthy Ears team visited Gulargambone PreSchool and Central School to screen and check the ear health of some amazing students. 👂✨

Early checks like these help ensure children have the best chance to hear, learn, and thrive in the classroom. 💙

A big thank you to the wonderful staff and families for supporting the program!

This week volunteers Rachel and Peter along with healthy ears puppet Snotty Sam, were delighted to travel to the Gold Coast to be guest speakers at the SIXT Australia annual National Convention. What an amazing time they had meeting SIXT Franchisee’s from all around Australia. On Tuesday night they spoke at the Gala Ball which was also a fundraising event for us. How wonderful to receive a cheque for $10000. SIXT has committed to ongoing support for us through their Regine Sixt Children's Aid Foundation
Please support them if you need a car rental.

❤️ Yesterday the Hear Our Heart team had such a great day visiting St Joeys and Gilgandra Highschool! Thank you for welcoming us on the bus we loved chatting with your students and sharing some ear-health wisdom. 👂

Here are a few fun hearing facts for school-aged kids:

🎶 Did you know your ears never “switch off”? They’re always listening even when you’re asleep!

💬 Good hearing helps kids catch the little things, like jokes and group chats, which are just as important for confidence and friendships as they are for schoolwork.

📱 Teenagers are at higher risk of hearing damage from loud music and headphones turning it down just a notch can protect hearing for years to come.

Healthy ears don’t just help with learning they help kids connect, belong, and enjoy every moment. 🌟

Big thanks again to St Joey’s and Gilgandra High we can’t wait to visit you again soon! 🚌✨

Imagine trying to learn with the volume turned down!

👂⁉️ Did you know that even MILD hearing loss in children can cause them to miss up to 50% of classroom discussions? Imagine trying to learn when half the words just “disappear”!

😔 Children with undetected hearing loss often look like they’re daydreaming, not paying attention, or struggling with behaviour when really, they simply can’t hear clearly. Even sitting at the back of the classroom can make the problem worse, because background noise drowns out important sounds.

🌟 The good news is that regular hearing checks and simple classroom strategies (like seating a child closer to the teacher, using microphones/speakers, or teaching nose blowing to clear fluid) can make a huge difference for learning, speech development, and confidence at school.

Early detection = better listening = better learning. ✅
