Hear our Heart Ear Bus Project

Hear our Heart Ear Bus Project A project of the Dubbo and District Parent Support Group for Deaf and Hearing Impaired Inc. Otitis Media is a big problem in children's health.

Our mission is to raise funds to continue our mobile children's ear education/health clinic that travels to schools in Dubbo and Districts. The project teaches ear health prevention and awareness as well as provides an Audiologists to diagnose children's hearing problems. From this we then provide the pathways to care for parents and schools. We also have access to a monthly free supported Ear Specialist clinic in Dubbo and supported Australian Hearing appointments. Our bus has been proudly donated by Sainsbury Automotive in Dubbo and fitted out by Alloy Welding and Ray Tobin signs who provided free manpower. Dubbo City Toyota provides our fuel.our staff are proudly funded by The Walter and Eliza Hall Charitable Foundation. It not only effects and reduces hearing it also causes social issues and learning difficulties. We want to combat this problem and with the communities help we can. Make sure you and your friends take part in one or more of the Hear Our Heart events as you may be saving your own or a relatives child's hearing in the future. ⁉️ Did you know… children can pass a hearing test and still struggle to hear properly?

Most people think hearing is just about volume… But for kids, it’s also about clarity.

A child might:
✔️ Hear sounds perfectly in a quiet room
❌ But struggle to understand speech in a noisy classroom

This is often called “hidden hearing difficulties” (like auditory processing issues or the effects of glue ear).

💥 Why this matters

Classrooms can hit noise levels of 60–70 dB (basically like a busy café ☕)

So for a child with even mild hearing issues:
❤️ Words blur together
❤️ Instructions get missed
❤️ They can seem distracted, “naughty,” or behind

When really… they just can’t hear clearly enough to keep up

👀 Signs to watch for
❤️ “What?” or “Huh?” a lot
❤️ Watching other kids to copy what to do
❤️ Struggles more in groups than one-on-one
❤️ Tired after school … listening fatigue is real!

Early hearing support doesn’t just help ears… It supports learning, behaviour, confidence, and social skills!

At Hear Our Heart, we see this every day.
Hearing is more than just passing a test , it’s about giving kids the best chance to learn, connect, and thrive 💫

If you have any concerns about your child’s hearing or ear health, reach out to our team, we’re always here to help ❤️

‼️ Sam & Lucy update for our Warren families

Unfortunately, due to illness, our Hear Our Heart team are unable to attend today’s community clinic at the Warren Youth Community Hub.

As a result, today’s clinic has unfortunately been cancelled.

We’re really sorry for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding ❤️

We’ll be working on a new date and will share an update as soon as possible.

Interesting information from our friends at the Earbus Foundation of WA

EAR-SSENTIAL FACTS

Your Ears Can Taste Sound!

👂 Your ears are doing much more than just listening.
👂 Hidden deep inside the middle ear is a tiny muscle called the stapedius (the smallest muscle in the human body). Its job is to protect the inner ear by tightening when it senses loud noises. 👂 But here’s the strange part: the stapedius also reacts when you chew or taste something sour.
🤫 That’s why the world seems to go a bit quieter when you’re getting stuck into a bag of chips or biting into something zesty. The muscle tightens reflexively, dulling outside noise while your jaw is moving.
🧏‍♀️ It’s a clever built‑in safety feature, designed to keep your hearing sharp even while you’re making noise yourself.
Most people never notice it, but once you know it’s happening, you can’t un-hear it.
🤩Your ears are quietly multitasking every day, listening, protecting, and “tasting” along the way.

We had a wonderful time at the recent Cradle to Classroom Information Day for new Australians 💛

Hear Our Heart's Healthy Ears Teacher, Donna Lumber, was there sharing ear health and hearing information with families, helping raise awareness about the importance of healthy ears for learning and development.

It was such a fantastic concept, bringing together a range of services in one place to support families with valuable information and resources. It was especially great to see so many parents and carers engaging, asking questions, and connecting with services available to them.

A huge thank you to Lorna for organising such a successful and meaningful event, and to Sharon, Principal of Dubbo South Public School, for your support and warm hospitality.

We’re proud to be part of initiatives that support strong, healthy starts for children in our community 🌱

What a great idea.
We promote Auslan not only for hard of hearing children, but for all children. You would be pleasantly surprised how many childcare centres we visit that use Auslan for key words with their children. It’s great for all children, especially those that cannot communicate.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1CW2hg2553/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Turn your next school event into something truly inclusive. Introduce Auslan Spelling Bee in your school where every child can join in, learn fingerspelling, and celebrate communication in all its forms.

Support your deaf and hard of hearing students by getting involved.
