At Whiteley Optometry, we’re committed to understanding the latest advancements in treatment modalities. Recently, Eliza had the opportunity to learn from Dr. Vivek Pandya, a Vitreoretinal Surgeon and Macular Specialist from Dubbo Retina, about the newest developments in macular degeneration treatment.

🌐 A new treatment for geographic atrophy (dry macular degeneration) shows promise in slowing disease progression, but is currently not on the PBS and has a prohibitive cost of around $4,000 per treatment every 2 months. We will continue to update you as this treatment evolves 💸 We’re dedicated to keeping our patients informed about the latest developments and potential future options, including exciting gene therapy trials on the horizon.

In the meantime, a crucial reminder: if you experience symptoms like flashing lights or a curtain over your vision, don’t hesitate to see an eyecare practitioner – it could be a retinal detachment! 🚨 Your vision is our priority, and we’re here to provide the best care possible.

I recently spoke at the Youth Forum, bringing together 300 students from the Western Division to explore future career opportunities in Western NSW.

It was a privilege to reflect on my own journey, embracing the twists and turns, and highlighting that a career is an evolving path, not a destination.

(You can tell from my body language I must be passionate about the topic 😅)

💡 What a full-circle moment, too - it coincided with my first time speaking in front of my kindergarten class all those years ago!
