Staying warm in Sydney’s cold winter! The Yoga Nook term ends this Friday and we head to Queensland for warmer weather and the Emu Park Retreat. Term 3 starts on Saturday July 19.

It might take a while for benefits to flow but the private health insurers are keen to re-include yoga after the NTREAP review found there is enough evidence to show it works.

Australians will be able to access a range of natural therapies under their private health insurance following an independent review of their effectiveness.

QLD, Emu Park, near Rockhampton: Head to Queensland in winter for a 5 night Iyengar Yoga retreat beside the sea. Add on some days beforehand or afterwards to see Great Keppel Island, a short boat ride across the way. This retreat is suitable for experienced Iyengar Yoga practitioners and includes an optional teaching workshop.

We are still waiting for official word that Mark Butler has approved the reinstatement of yoga to private health insurance. This article might have jumped the gun but is probably indicative of where things will land.

Apparently the Government has taken up the recommendation to restore yoga to private health insurance, but I'm still looking for clear proof of that. In the meantime, here's a good article explaining what's been happening in NTREAP.

Nine therapies will stay on the prohibited list because the evidence doesn't support their use.

Good news…the NTREAP review into Natural Therapies that has been happening since yoga and other therapies were taken off private health insurance in 2017 on the grounds that there was not enough scientific evidence to support their effectiveness, has been completed. And the Chair, Professor Michael Kidd has recommended that yoga be re-included. It’s up to Government now to agree or not. If it is re-included in private health insurance it will help people doing yoga for anxiety and depression, and let yoga be a part of rehabilitation programmes in hospitals again.
