Without Occupational Therapists, the NDIS falls short
OTA is deeply concerned by suggestions to “redistribute” OTs away from the NDIS, following comments made by Health and Disability Minister Mark Butler about upcoming NDIS reforms.
Occupational therapists are central to the NDIS, and are uniquely trained to assess and deliver supports that enable participants to live meaningful, independent lives.
Shifting practitioners around will not fix workforce shortages across aged care, hospitals, mental health, or veterans’ services. The reality is that Australia simply does not have enough OTs to meet demand.
With major NDIS planning reforms underway, now is the time to invest in training, placements, and a sustainable workforce, not weaken a system participants rely on every day.
