My third GAPS Learning Series is done with a discussion on the Full GAPS diet and a beetroot kvass demonstration

I am LOVING doing these and appreciate everyone who comes along. It’s all part of the journey… educating, learning, curiosity, connection, questions, ideas - I’m so proud to offer these and simply spread the word of robust health!

I’m looking forward to some pics (of something new to ferment) and having a chat about it at the next one

🙏🏼 FEELING GRATEFUL

& a big thank you to Kel at for your awesome space and my sidekick son who helps me with all the behind the scenes stuff ♡

This is such a goodie for those of you who are very recipe driven, need inspo or want to know what they can have in the Intro stages, even Full GAPS OR just beautiful, nourishing, healing foods!

😂😂 have to laugh at the captions and how they spell KVASS!!

Anyhoo, that aside… I know it could be cold and maybe rainy?? But come along, ask questions, see what the Full GAPS diet entails and get inspired to make your own beetroot kvass!

I’m having lamb stock made with shanks AND added this gorgeous salt both from

I cook my lamb stock for 3-4 hours (from boiling) and there’s usually plenty of quality fats from this that I leave in and consume with my stock.

Then… I have to hide it or freeze it because my kids can smell it and want some straightaway. Not that big a deal but I like to have some tucked away for later…

What a castor oil pack does~

Castor oil contains ricinoleic acid, which has positive effects like ~

• reducing inflammation
• stimulates local circulation
• effects smooth muscle
• increases local blood flow
• relaxation
• activation of the parasympathetic nervous system (“rest and digest”)

These lead to improved ~

• nervous system regulation
• vagus nerve activation which shifts you into the parasympathetic state
• better digestion
• bile flow
• awesome sleep
• reduced bloating
• improved bowel motility
• gentle stimulation of the gut
• more regular bowel movements
• supports lymphatic drainage

When used topically as a pack
on the liver or can be used on the abdomen too.

I love the packs that you can leave on overnight. Be consistent, do it for 3-4 weeks then have a break. Look for organic hexane-free castor oil in a glass (preferably amber) bottle and organic cotton castor oil packs.

We recommend castor oil packs a lot in the GAPS protocol but they are for anyone as a supportive tool for the above issues. So before you run out to take a bunch of supplements, try a castor oil pack!

This pack is from and these are preferred so it’s not too messy. You can pour a small amount of castor oil onto your hand and rub into the liver area (just below your right ribcage), on your abdomen or use a roll on like showing.

Not for pregnancy / heavy menstruation / super sensitive / irritated or open skin

I made these pancakes this morning

✔️High protein
✔️Grain free
✔️Good fats

Ingredients:

4 x eggs
1 x cup ricotta
1 x cup almond meal
1 x tbs honey (heaped)
1 x tsp baking powder
1/2 x tsp bi-carb soda
1 x tsp vanilla paste
2 x tbs milk of choice (I used organic raw)
Pinch salt
Lemon zest (optional)
1 x tbs whey or a super clean protein or collagen powder (optional)

Method:

Mix everything together and fry in ghee on low/medium heat. Watch them carefully, they brown easily but you need to cook them halfway through before flipping.

Enjoy with butter and a small drizzle of honey (you could use maple syrup)

I found some bio dynamic organic ricotta but you want as additive free as possible

This is your reminder to eat the WHOLEFOOD source because it always trumps supplements (unless it’s a freeze dried version of the whole food)

This supplement has become the darling of supplements lately. And I get it. It’s one scoop in your water, it’s a targeted dose, it’s quick and convenient.

But let’s not veer too far away from the act of preparing real food. You also get the benefits of the WHOLE form and sitting down to reap the rewards of the act of cooking and enjoying food with friends and family.

This product is actually quite clean but be mindful of other products that may contain excipients or other undesirable ingredients.

“Consistency builds strong habits”

Just KEEP AT IT, and it becomes consistent, then it becomes habit

Even if you skip a beat / fall off the wagon / forget / don’t get around to it today… just pick up where you left off and don’t stop

I make ghee every week or sometimes every fortnight. Meat stock is the same, depends on whether I make a huge batch or a small one. There is ALWAYS some there

Don’t worry if you slipped up over Easter or you went away and couldn’t prepare the food - just begin again and be consistent

Implementing GAPS foundational foods has become a GOOD habit because I’m consistent. It’s the most important thing, not perfection - CONSISTENCY

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter Day whether with family or friends.

Just remember… you may have gone all out and overindulged but tomorrow is another day to get back on track.

My kids had more chocolate today than they probably ever have and when their little heads hit the pillow tonight, they were asleep within seconds.

I prepped them for a few days with meat stock and plenty of ferments, which is extra important when these big days are happening. Thankfully we had no meltdowns but now I need them to get through this chocolate!

I’m letting them eat it intuitively so if they overdo it, they recognise the feeling and I’ll support them through. Once it’s gone, that’s it and we continue with nourishing food.

So, my message is - be ok with it. As hard as it is to watch them gobble down truck loads of sugar, they eat so well for the majority of the time. It’s imperative to have a healthy attitude to “treats” or sometimes foods without the guilt or beating yourself up over overindulgence.

Did you know these foods make great electrolyte drinks??? …

• Coconut water kefir with salt and lime juice (featured here 👆🏼👆🏼)
• Juiced carrots with the skin on
• Sole water
• Meat stock

Electrolyte powders can be expensive and some have undesirable ingredients.

Let me know if you use any of these

Making sure you get enough protein in the day is essential for so many reasons - firstly, animal protein provides complete proteins wit all amino acids. Protein is THE building material needed to grow!

Also for satiation, B vitamins, minerals, bioavailable iron, cell regeneration, muscle growth and repair

I began my day at breakfast with about 150g protein (I usually aim for 150-200g) and I wasn’t hungry again until around 2pm

Lunch today was;

🍃 Lamb and liver koftas (I literally BBQ’d these this morning for the kiddos)
•lamb mince, cumin, garlic powder, liver capsules, fresh chopped parsley, S&P

🍃Sauerkraut from my first learning series over 5 weeks ago

🍃 Locally made zucchini pickle

🍃 Boiled to perfection pastured eggs

🍃 Mug of beef meat stock with lots of salt and a big dollop of homemade tallow

🍃 Raw cheese

• Mince from
• Liver Capsules
• Cabbage for sauerkraut
• Tallow made from fat. Dunsborough are stockists of this amazing meat
• Pastured eggs from
• Le Gruyère cheese from Woolworths
