Some experiences of anxiety are like this corn chip. Well, like a triangle to be exact. At point 1 of our anxiety triangle we have our defences- the things we've been told or we tell ourselves to ensure we don't have to face our tricky emotions. For instance, using humour to deflect from our true feelings, or minimising our experiences as "no big deal", or blaming others rather than dealing with our own vulnerabilities. There really are loads more though. At point 2 we have the symptoms that start to turn up to tell us something is wrong under the surface, such as heart racing, trouble breathing, confused thoughts, trouble sleeping. Again there are many anxiety symptoms that we can easily dismiss until we reach crisis point if we aren't mindful.
These 2 points are what we notice on the surface, but underneath at point 3 of our chip, I mean triangle🤓, are the unprocessed emotions and events that are crying out to be heard, honoured and cared for in a safe space. Our anxiety is sometimes our system's way of raising the alert, letting us know we have some unresolved business to deal with. Be assured, things can get better, sometimes we just need a helping hand- just what Revive is here for.
