Anxiety symptoms show on the outside what is happening to our body on the inside. For instance, stress chemicals are pumping hard so our muscles are tensing, our thoughts become strongly negatively biased. Our bodies may fidget, whilst our breathing may be shallow or disrupted, our head often feels heavy and foggy. Our brain waves have changed and we are more sensitive, easily angered, fearful, upset. Its harder than normal to think clearly and calmly. Our nervous system is in fight (reactive), flight (escape), fawn (appeasing at all costs) or freeze (shut down). Its difficult to feel like ourselves as we experience the cumulative affects of our biology and symptoms.

Best practice treatment for anxiety addresses ALL that is occurring in your body and the effects on your mood, thoughts and behaviour. When you connect with Revive you will be guided in the using the right tools to suit your unique combination of symptoms and what they represent in your body. Don't settle for a quick fix or bandaid treatment, see what Revive can do for you today.

Everyone has worries. So how can you tell if you need help for anxiety?

Our worries should be like all our other thoughts- like visitors who briefly come and go through our mind.

Visitors shouldn't stick around even when you try to show them the door, and nor should our worries. Visitors should keep their noise to a respectful level, and they certainly shouldn't go searching through your house looking for things to get worked up about. Some of our worries can get so loud and intrusive they make us want to scream, or they can get sticky and cling on one issue, then the next and so on, so we never feel at peace. Worries ought to be flexible, able to mature with new information. But if they stomp their feet and insist they are right no matter what the evidence then they have become unwelcome visitors, and its time to get some help.

Some experiences of anxiety are like this corn chip. Well, like a triangle to be exact. At point 1 of our anxiety triangle we have our defences- the things we've been told or we tell ourselves to ensure we don't have to face our tricky emotions. For instance, using humour to deflect from our true feelings, or minimising our experiences as "no big deal", or blaming others rather than dealing with our own vulnerabilities. There really are loads more though. At point 2 we have the symptoms that start to turn up to tell us something is wrong under the surface, such as heart racing, trouble breathing, confused thoughts, trouble sleeping. Again there are many anxiety symptoms that we can easily dismiss until we reach crisis point if we aren't mindful.
These 2 points are what we notice on the surface, but underneath at point 3 of our chip, I mean triangle🤓, are the unprocessed emotions and events that are crying out to be heard, honoured and cared for in a safe space. Our anxiety is sometimes our system's way of raising the alert, letting us know we have some unresolved business to deal with. Be assured, things can get better, sometimes we just need a helping hand- just what Revive is here for.

Let's talk about anxiety. There is so much information out there these days about anxiety symptoms, disorders, causes and treatments. Unfortunately alot of the information is in bite sized chunks for quick consumption on socials. Talking with a trained professional about our own unique relationship with anxiety, and the equally unique combination of factors that fuels it for each of us, is the only reliable way we can navigate through all of this complexity. I'll happily post some info over the coming weeks regarding anxiety but it will always have this caveat: anxiety is layered, complex and unique for each person so please connect with me for a more in depth conversation about how I can help you with your personal experience and relationship with anxiety.

So... Grief. Have you noticed that western society doesn't hold space for us in our moments of bereavement or other losses. Too quickly we can be told by loved ones to "get over it" and "move on", we berate ourselves when we can't seem to. Humans were never meant to work like that, to jump from loss and grief to new things in a matter of weeks or months. That's why it can feel so jarring when people say those things.

To be human is to feel, to love is to invest, to lose is painful. A huge part of surviving these times in our lives is allowing ourselves the space to fully acknowledge what we've lost, and the good, bad and ugly feelings that accompany those losses. We can't truly move to a healthy sense of acceptance of what has occurred before we've done that.

Don't let voices around you tell you you're wrong to need time to heal. Honour your dreams and your losses with care, and when you've grieved well you will create a new and beautiful vision for your future again. I'm passionate about helping people take that journey so please do get in touch if this is where you're at today.

When I meet people for the first time socially and they discover I'm a Counsellor they often ask, "What's your specialty/passion?"

"People... all shapes, sizes, colours, ages, stages, backgrounds... just. people."

That being said, I know that it helps to hear if a Counsellor has experience or extra learning in specific areas, so for the next few weeks I'm going to share different areas of my passion/interest/experience along with (what I hope will be 😜) a gold nugget of wisdom with you all.

So stay tuned folks!
