This diagnosis covers a range of pervasive developmental disorders characterised by a combination of difficulties with social interaction, communication and restricted behaviour. Occupational Therapy can help to address specific issues a child may be having with respect to their normal daily routine and participation in activities. Handwriting

If your child is struggling at school then handwriting difficulty may be one of the issues. Handwriting requires a complex skill set involving a combination of physical, perceptual, cognitive and sensory processing components. most of us take these skills for granted! But some children struggle to put everything together and that is where occupational therapy for children can help. Even in our modern computer age, it is still vitally important to develop and maintain good handwriting skills. School Readiness

Are you concerned about your child’s school readiness. Childworks can assess your per-schooler in relation to their school readiness. If required, a therapy programme would be directed toward developing the skills your child needs to thrive at school from the very first day. How does Childworks help? When you bring your child to Childworks, we assess your child individually using internationally recognised, practical tests and games designed to highlight any l issues your child may have. We also use clinical observation. We then create a comprehensive programme based on your child’s strengths and weaknesses as well as the needs of the family. We implement this programme over a series of one-on-one sessions. We work closely with parents, school teachers, school counsellors and doctors to implement the programme. We ensure the child’s progress carries over to school and home environments. Experience and Registration

Our therapists are experienced and are fully registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). They have degrees in occupational therapy and are full and active members of Occupational Therapy Australia. We participate in regular training programmes to ensure that we are up to date with the most recent research and techniques. Where is Childworks? Thankyou Childworks Family,

When I started Childworks nearly 11 years ago, my goal was to provide quality, evidence-based therapy to Children in my community and to create a workplace where people share my values and love their work. I think I managed to achieve that. I have learned so much from the children and families I have worked with and from team members and students who have moved through Childworks. I am extremely grateful for the experiences I have had and for having the privilege of helping the amazing children and families whom I have come to know over the years.

Craig and I are both excited and saddened to move to the next phase of our lives. I will enjoy having the time to do all the personal things I need to do but I will miss the little ones (that includes high school kids who are taller than me) who have really been my sunshine for the last 11 years. And I will miss my dedicated and passionate team members too. I hope that I have managed to make some sort of a positive contribution to people’s lives.

I am over the moon to be able to pass on Childworks to a team who share my values and will go on helping children and families into the future. Julia, Nigel, Mikayla, Isaac, Tyla and Brianna, I wish you all the best for the future.

I am especially grateful for Julia who is an incredible practice manager who knows the needs of every client family and treats everyone with the care and empathy that they deserve. Thank you, Julia for everything you have done and continue to do. I am in awe of you.

And finally, a huge thank you to Brianna, who has become a more than proficient leader of the team and I am sure will take Childworks to new places I have never thought of. I have every confidence in your ability to do amazing things in the future as the new practice owner. It is a joy to be able to hand over this practice to someone who I know will continue to provide the same values based occupational therapy service for our community. Thank you, Brianna, for making Childworks what it is today and for the great things you will do in the future. You have come so far from the enthusiastic 3rd year student I met so many years ago!

From Monday 18th March to Sunday 24th March, Childworks will be supporting Neurodiversity Celebration Week – a worldwide initiative that strives to empower individuals and question stereotypes.
