What is Restorative Yoga? Imagine blissfully resting in a comfortable position, completely supported by cushions, blankets and yoga bolsters with your eyes covered with a soft eye pillow… warm, cosy, still and quiet….
Can you picture yourself? That’s it. Voila! Restorative Yoga. People often say “but I’m not flexible enough to do yoga”. This makes me smile, it’s like saying; “but I’m too dirty to take a bath!”
Just about anyone can participate in yoga, and particularly Restorative Yoga because it’s not about stretching our body, it not about trying to achieve anything, it isn’t about pushing ourselves to DO anything, or BE anything…. it’s simply about resting. Letting go and doing less rather than more.
Why? Because the resting state is important. It’s just as important as sleep (and no one can really argue with the importance of sleep). Rest produces a distinctly different chemical state in the body compared to sleep. In a deeply restful state, the unique blood chemical signature signals to our nervous systems to down-regulate and move into a ‘parasympathetic’ state.
Curious? At Yoga at Durras our first offering of the new year is a restorative half-day mini yoga retreat.
The movement workshop is coupled with Restorative Yoga and Yoga Nidra, providing the opportunity for personal reflection and to ‘go within.’ Working with the concept of ‘Sankalpa’ through Yoga Nidra (guided meditation practice) we allow our aligned intentions to emerge from a place of deep rest.
The morning will unfold as follows:
9am Pranayama (Breath-work)
9.30am Fluidly moving, but gentle Vinyasa (breath-based) practice (1.5hrs)
11am Morning Tea (a delicious plant-based morning tea will be provided)
11.30am Restorative Yoga & Yoga Nidra (guided mediation) 2 hrs
Saturday 11th January 9AM - 1.30PM
Durras Progress Association Hall
Banyandah Street, South Durras
