Our Aged Care Access teams hit the road again in the second week of February travelling down south to connect with mob and share information about the supports we offer. This time we stopped at Donnybrook, Bridgetown and Manjimup - and it was deadly to see everyone who came down for a yarn, grabbed resources or just popped by to say hello. Thank you!

The teams will be back on the road again next week heading to Margaret River, Dunsborough and Busselton! We're looking forward to connecting with even more community members!

Cuteness overload! Our koorlangkas and their families had a fantastic time at our first playgroup back for a while on Thursday at the Hudson Road Family Centre.

On Monday we're welcoming families to our Monday playgroups at a new venue for us, Eaton Community Hive.

Join us from 10am until 12pm; registration can be completed on the day.

Calling Noongar Artists across the South West!

SWAMS is excited to invite Noongar artists to help shape the new SWAMS Health Hub — a place built with community, culture, and connection at its heart. After many years of listening to Elders, families, and community voices, the Hub is becoming a reality, and we’d love our local artists to be part of its story.

Expressions of Interest are now open for seven Building Integrated Art projects. These artworks will become a lasting part of a culturally safe space that supports the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal people for generations to come.

You can access the EOI information and application form:
• on our website: https://www.swams.com.au/health-hub-artists-eoi/
• or by picking up a copy from any SWAMS site.

If you’d like to yarn or need more information, please contact:
Karen Morgan
📞 0447 772 887
📧 karenmorgan7@hotmail.com

Applications close Thursday 19 February 2026.

We can’t wait to see the creativity and stories our community brings to this special project.

Do you know February is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month?
There is currently no screening for early detection of Ovarian Cancer, so it is important to keep a close eye on symptoms.
If you have any symptoms, get checked by your SWAMS GP. It may not be Ovarian Cancer, but it will give you peace of mind.

Nearly 30 medical students were pleased to be introduced to SWAMS on 29 January. The Rural Clinical School of WA students received information from our GPs Dr Clare Willix and Dr Dee Arnold, who also work for the school. They learned how an Aboriginal medical service operates and received a tour of the service. You may see one of the students in a clinical appointment working alongside a SWAMS health worker if you would like them to be a part of the conversation. This year’s intake of students is strong, with a few more students than recent years.

🦺Early Site Works Begin on the SWAMS HealthHUB at Jaycee Park – A Significant Milestone for SWAMS and the community.

We are pleased to share an important and long‑awaited milestone for SWAMS. Early pre‑construction works have now commenced at Jaycee Park as we prepare for the development of the SWAMS Health Hub.
These initial activities involve site remediation, including cleaning, environmental preparation, and the safe removal of identified substances and vegetation to ensure a healthy site.

This moment carries deep significance for our organisation. Over 20 years ago, Elders dreamed of creating a purpose-built home where our community could access coordinated, culturally safe health and wellbeing services. Over the past 8 - 9 years, many Elders, community members, staff, past and current have worked tirelessly to bring this vision to life.

🌟 SWAMS Team Update 🌟

We’re delighted to welcome Dr Rosemary Olufemi‑Akanle, our new Resident Medical Officer, who will be with SWAMS until 30th March.

Dr Rosemary joins us after 18 months at Bunbury Regional Hospital, where she cared for community members across the Emergency Department, Paediatrics, and Geriatrics. We’re grateful to have her knowledge and energy supporting our team.

For those unfamiliar, RMOs are medical graduates taking the next step in their careers before moving into a chosen specialty.

And there’s more good news — two permanent GPs will be joining SWAMS very soon.

We also recently farewelled GP Registrar Dr Andrew Yan. We thank Dr Andrew for his contributions and wish him every success in his future endeavours.
