Dear Valued Patients,

As you may be aware, Australia continues to experience a critical shortage of GPs, with the impact of this felt not just in Tasmania but across the country. This has made it extremely difficult to attract and retain doctors at East Devonport Medical Centre.

To ensure we can continue to serve our community, we have made the decision to merge East Devonport Medical Centre with SmartClinics Devonport. This will ensure continuity of care for current patients with effective resourcing, while enabling for future growth.

The final day of appointments at East Devonport Medical Centre will be 2nd February, 2024.

A number of our team members and Dr Daffodil Caballes-Beaty will move across to the SmartClinics location. Several locum GPs will also be available to see patients at our clinic in December and January. We will then rebrand the SmartClinics practice to become:

Devonport Family Medical Centre.

East Devonport Medical Centre has been caring for the local community for nearly 50 years. The health and well-being of patients are โ€“ and always have been the doctorsโ€™ greatest priorities, and we thank you for your support over the years.

Merry Christmas and a safe New Year from all at East Devonport Medical Centre. We look forward to celebrating with our family and friends and returning, ready to help, on Wednesday 28th December.

For those who may not have heard, yes, it is true, Dr Jeremy Bott will be moving to the mainland. His last consulting day at the surgery will be the 16th of December 2022.

Strategies are in place for urgent appointments to access bookings, and be seen on the day, so it is business as usual with all your well known, friendly reception staff ready to assist your calls.

We look forward to welcoming new Doctors in the New Year and will be there to continue assisting with your medical care.

With Tasmanian borders opening from the 15th of December 2021 and the anticipated community spread of COVID-19, we must take measures to keep our Practice, staff and patients safe and take every measure possible to keep COVID-19 out of our facility.

Our practice cares for many patients who are vulnerable and immunosuppressed as well as young children not yet eligible for the COVID-19 vaccination.

To date, Public Health Tasmania has not been able to provide any guarantee that we would not be required to close the Practice for up to 14 days for quarantining should a positive case enter the building, which would obviously severely impair our ability to provide medical care to our patients.

As such we will be implementing the following procedure from 15/12/2021.

- All patients will be screened before entry
- All patients will be asked to wait in their vehicle for their appointment as the waiting room will be unavailable
- Surgical masks are to be worn by patients (apart from very young children) whilst in our surgery. We encourage patients to supply their own mask, however, disposable masks will be available for purchase from from reception for $1.00
- Patients with respiratory symptoms, regardless of vaccination status, are required to undergo COVID-19 testing as soon as possible and will be initially offered a phone consultation awaiting the result, with a follow up face to face appointment at the discretion of the treating GP
- Patients unvaccinated against COVID-19 will still be seen, initially by phone and if a face to face appointment is required (at the discretion of the treating GP) they will be asked to wait in their car upon arrival and will be seen by a GP in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

We understand this may pose some challenges for our patients and appreciate your ongoing co-operation as we continue to provide care in a safe environment in these challenging times.

As you may be aware Dr Parry was diagnosed with MND in 2020. Dr Naiker is completing the Ice Bucket Challenge at our fundraiser, โ€˜Tassie Care A Fun Day For Our Bryn Parryโ€™.
Everyone is invited to attend this event and please sponsor Dr Naiker to take part in the ICE Bucket Challenge if you are able. All money raised goes directly to funding MND Research in Tasmania.

Time to reflect on how we can make the world a better place. I am part of the team raising funds for MND Research. On behalf of Dr Parry, a colleague I have had the pleasure of working with, your effo
