Stepping Stones Child Development Centre

Stepping Stones Child Development Centre Stepping Stones Child Development Centre offers a nurturing pre-kindy program, designed to support each child’s unique journey with kindness, joy, and purpose.

Guided by our mission to build a joyful, kind community - one step at a time - our qualified early childhood teachers thoughtfully plan experiences that reflect each child’s interests, strengths, and stage of development. In a warm and inclusive environment where every child feels seen, heard, and celebrated, learning unfolds through meaningful play and hands-on exploration. Our programs are grounded in trusting relationships, built in partnership with families who we thank deeply for the privilege of walking alongside their children. Together, we create a community where joy, kindness, and gratitude grow, and where every child is empowered to grow with confidence, curiosity, and a love of learning - today and into the future.

The children had so much fun yesterday getting hands-on in the kitchen and on the move! 🍕

They enjoyed making their own mini pizzas using English muffins, spreading tomato paste and sprinkling cheese before watching their creations come together for a delicious afternoon tea.

During our movement session, the children practised their balance through line walking, exploring straight, zigzag and curved lines before challenging themselves on the balancing beam.

A wonderful mix of cooking, coordination and confidence building! ✨

Earlier this week, the children enjoyed a fun and engaging Easter egg hunting experience in the tuff tray. Sticky tape was added to make the hunt a little more challenging, encouraging the children to problem solve and use their fine motor skills as they carefully removed the eggs 🐣

In the Easter Bunny House, the children took part in a “Feed the Easter Bunny” activity. They used carrots labelled with numbers, giving them opportunities to recognise numbers and practise counting as they fed the bunny. This experience also supported the development of fine motor skills and hand eye coordination, as children carefully placed the carrots into the bunny’s mouth 🐰🥕

These playful, hands on activities provided meaningful exposure to early numeracy concepts while supporting coordination and motor development in a fun and engaging way 💛

In K1, we’ve been focusing on building children’s sense of agency by creating a variety of engaging experiences where they can choose what to explore and when 💛

Our children have loved getting hands on with sensory play, making their own playdough and exploring how ice melts, discovering different textures and concepts like hot and cold along the way!

We’ve also seen some beautiful teamwork as children worked together to pack away their bed sheets, building independence, responsibility, and confidence as active contributors to their learning environment.

Last week we set up ocean animals in the tuff tray with the children as we continued building on our environmental learning. 🐠🌊

Following on from our activities for keeping Australia clean, the children explored how we can also help keep our oceans clean. Together we talked about why it’s important to look after the ocean so marine animals can live safely in their homes.

Through this hands-on experience, the children shared ideas, explored the ocean-themed setup and continued developing their understanding of caring for our environment. 🌏💙

These activities carried on from our environmental focus and also helped us celebrate Sea Week 2026.

🎨🖍️ Upside-Down Drawing Fun!

Did you know that drawing upside down under the table isn’t just silly fun? It actually helps children strengthen their shoulder and arm muscles, skills that are super important for writing and everyday tasks! 💪✏️

It also boosts fine motor skills and hand–eye coordination as little ones reach upward to control their crayons. Best of all? It sparks creativity, body awareness, and lots of exploration.

A perfect activity for curious minds and busy hands! 🌈

Why do we offer opportunities for creating and designing on a vertical surface? 🎨

Working in this position supports many important areas of development for young children. As they reach, place and press collage materials onto the board, they are building core strength, strengthening the muscles in their arms and hands, and developing hand–eye coordination.

Using a large vertical space also encourages children to cross the midline of their body, practise using both hands together, and develop the wrist strength needed for early drawing and writing skills.

Learning experiences like this allow children to explore, create and develop important physical skills while expressing their ideas and imagination. ✨

Last week the children helped celebrate and get involved in Clean Up Australia Day! 🇦🇺🌿

Using tongs, the children worked together to remove rubbish from the tuff tray, helping to keep Australia clean and protect our wildlife. They carefully collected the rubbish and placed it in the bin, showing great care for the environment.

Later, we continued our efforts outside by helping to clean up our playground. The children were proud to look after the spaces we share and showed wonderful teamwork and responsibility. ♻️✨
