Stepping Stones Child Development Centre

Stepping Stones Child Development Centre Stepping Stones Child Development Centre offers a nurturing pre-kindy program, designed to support each child’s unique journey with kindness, joy, and purpose.

Guided by our mission to build a joyful, kind community - one step at a time - our qualified early childhood teachers thoughtfully plan experiences that reflect each child’s interests, strengths, and stage of development. In a warm and inclusive environment where every child feels seen, heard, and celebrated, learning unfolds through meaningful play and hands-on exploration. Our programs are grounded in trusting relationships, built in partnership with families who we thank deeply for the privilege of walking alongside their children. Together, we create a community where joy, kindness, and gratitude grow, and where every child is empowered to grow with confidence, curiosity, and a love of learning - today and into the future.

As we reflect on the year that has been, we are filled with deep gratitude and pride for the journey we have shared as a Stepping Stones community.
This year has been one of meaningful growth—growth in our children, our educators, our programs, and our connections with families and the wider community. Each day, we have seen children grow in confidence, curiosity, independence and kindness, supported by trusting relationships and a learning environment where they feel safe, seen, and celebrated. Through play, exploration and shared experiences, children have taken brave steps forward, discovering who they are and how they belong within our community.
A significant moment of growth for Stepping Stones this year was the thoughtful refresh of our branding, mission, vision and values. This work provided the opportunity to pause, reflect and clearly articulate who we are and what matters most to us. Our refreshed identity more strongly reflects the heart of our service—our commitment to Community, Kindness, Joy, Growth and Gratitude—and offers a shared language that guides our decisions, practice and partnerships.
Our physical environment has grown alongside our philosophy. The continued development of our outdoor playground has created richer opportunities for nature play, creativity, movement and safe risk-taking. This space invites children to explore, climb, imagine and collaborate, supporting physical development, resilience and a sense of joy in learning.
We are also deeply grateful for our close connection with East Fremantle Baptist Church, whose ongoing support and shared community values continue to strengthen our sense of belonging. Our relationship with the Church enriches our service through shared spaces, mutual respect and a collective commitment to nurturing children and families within a caring, connected community.
Our growth this year has been supported by the steady guidance and dedication of the Stepping Stones Board. As volunteer members of our community, the Board provides thoughtful governance, strategic direction and unwavering support for the service. Their commitment to our shared vision ensures Stepping Stones remains strong, responsive and values-led.
We have also grown as a team. Our educators continue to reflect, learn and strengthen their practice, guided by our values and a strong commitment to high-quality early education. Through collaboration and professional learning, our team has deepened their understanding of children’s learning and wellbeing, strengthening the culture of our service.
Most importantly, our community continues to grow. We are deeply thankful for the trust families place in us and for the partnerships we share. Your involvement, feedback and support help create a warm, inclusive environment where everyone belongs. Together, we are truly building a joyful, kind community—one step at a time.
As we look ahead, we do so with optimism and excitement, carrying forward the learning, relationships and gratitude that have shaped this year. Thank you for being part of the Stepping Stones journey and for helping make this year one of connection, reflection and meaningful growth.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Amanda and the Stepping Stones Team

Is your under-16-year old ready for the social media ban? 👨🏽‍💻🤳

From Wednesday 10 December, the Australian Government will introduce a ban preventing children under 16 from using major social platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Snapchat and more.

Many young people may be feeling unsure about how they’ll stay connected or what life will look like without their usual online spaces.

Here are 5 screen-free ways to help your young person stay engaged and thriving this summer:

🌳 Get active at East Fremantle Community Park
Encourage them to take up a new hobby like bike riding, skateboarding or basketball. The Town will host East Fremantle Street Jam on Saturday 10 January - join in the fun!

📞 Stay connected the old-school way
Encourage kids to swap phone numbers so they can stay in touch via text or WhatsApp.

📚 Discover the magic of libraries
The Town invests in the Fremantle Library so residents can experience a treasure trove of imagination - from a gaming zone to events (and plenty of great books!).

🌿 Explore nature
Walk the Niergarup Track at Merv Cowan Reserve or spend a day fishing on the river.

🗣️ Keep the conversation open
This is a big change for young people. Regular chats can make a huge difference.

Need extra support? headspace Fremantle is available on 9431 7453.

Our hearts are so full. Every day, we are reminded of how lucky we are to be part of such a warm, kind and supportive community.
To our families and our beautiful children—thank you.
Thank you for your trust, your encouragement, your smiles, and the little moments of appreciation that mean so much. Whether it’s a kind word at pick-up, a drawing left on the bench, or the joy we see in your children as they play and grow—every bit of it fills us with gratitude.
At Stepping Stones, we believe community is built one small step at a time, and we are truly honoured to walk this journey with you. 💛
Here’s to kindness, joy, and growing together.
