If you're dealing with persistent heartburn, regurgitation, or chest pain, you know it's more than just an inconvenience—it could be a sign of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). While lifestyle changes and medication can offer temporary relief for some, they aren't always a permanent solution.

As an Upper GI Surgeon, my goal is to help you find lasting relief. I take a personalised approach to every patient, helping you understand the root cause of your symptoms and exploring surgical options that could significantly improve your quality of life.

Considering weight loss surgery? It's a huge step, and having a strong support system makes all the difference. Weight loss is a complex journey. For most people, diet and exercise alone don't lead to long-term success. The key to a lasting transformation is combining a weight loss operation with clean eating and moderate exercise. Skipping any of these three vital components can lead to weight regain.

Ultimately, success isn't just about the surgery; it's about embracing a new, healthier lifestyle. As a partner, friend, or family member, your support is crucial. This isn't the "easy way out"—it's a powerful and effective tool for long-term success.

If you or a loved one are considering weight loss surgery, we are here to help. To take the next step, call us to book an appointment at (02) 4380 8404.

Underneath our skin, a strong layer of tissue called the fascia holds our internal organs in place. After an abdominal operation—whether open or keyhole—a surgeon stitches this fascia layer closed. If this layer doesn't heal completely, a small hole can form. This allows the contents of your belly to bulge through, creating an incisional hernia.

Unfortunately, hernias will not go away by themselves. They will either stay the same size or gradually get bigger over time. If you suspect you may have a hernia, it's important to seek professional medical advice.

Hiatus hernia is a condition where all or part of your stomach slips or ‘herniates’ through your diaphragm into your chest.

Many people have small ones that don’t cause issues, but larger hernias can lead to significant problems. The good news is that a large hiatus hernia can be effectively treated with a laparoscopic repair. This is a keyhole surgery that returns the stomach to its correct position and tightens the diaphragm opening to prevent it from happening again.

If you are experiencing symptoms of a large hiatus hernia, schedule a consultation by calling (02) 4380 8404 to discuss your treatment options.

Getting active after your gastric sleeve surgery is a key part of your weight loss journey, but it's vital to do it safely and at the right time. Here's my advice on how to start moving again:

After your operation, I encourage you to begin by gently walking as soon as you can, with my permission. This is crucial for your recovery, as it helps reduce the risk of blood clots and can even help with trapped wind.

Once you're about two weeks post-op and I've given you the all-clear, you can start to slowly increase your activity. It's important to listen to your body and avoid heavy lifting or high-impact exercises like running or cycling.

Living here on the Central Coast, we're lucky to have so many beautiful spots to walk! I highly recommend exploring some of the great tracks in Terrigal, Ettalong, Gosford, or The Entrance. Getting outside and enjoying these scenic areas is a wonderful way to ease back into an active lifestyle.

Remember, every person's recovery is unique. Always follow my advice and the guidance of our healthcare team to achieve your long-term health goals.

Please be aware that we've changed our Kanwal consulting address to 18 Wiowera Road, Kanwal NSW 2259. You'll find us behind Tuggerah Lakes Private Hospital only 2min from where we used to be.

When faced with an oesophageal or stomach cancer diagnosis, it's natural to feel overwhelmed.

We'll conduct a series of detailed tests, including CT scans, PET scans, staging laparoscopies, and specialised endoscopies, to pinpoint the exact nature and extent of the cancer. This comprehensive evaluation allows us to tailor the most effective treatment plan for you.

I will then discuss your diagnosis and treatment options, focusing on the likelihood of a cure. Often, the best approach involves a combination of treatments. Your case will also be thoroughly reviewed at a multidisciplinary meeting with other specialists, including oncologists, radiologists, and pathologists, ensuring you receive the most optimal and personalised care.

For a consultation, please call (02) 4380 8404.

For individuals who haven't found success with diet and exercise alone, bariatric surgery can be a transformative option. This isn't just about weight loss; it's about restoring balance.

Post-surgery, many women experience normalised hormone levels (like estrogen, progesterone, and reduced leptin), which are vital for regular ovulation. It's particularly impactful for women with Polycystic O***y Syndrome (PCOS), often helping to regulate their cycles and increase pregnancy chances.

Take the first step towards a healthier future and improved fertility. Book a consultation by calling (02) 4380 8404.
