This new name reflects the evolving needs of our communities while maintaining the advocacy, authority, and uncompromising standards we are known for. We bring together the largest network of professional, ethical, and high-quality funeral care to support and guide families through life’s toughest moments and drive positive change nationwide.

AFDA is thrilled to welcome past and present Members, National Corporate Partners, Affiliate Members, and industry colleagues to our 90-Year Anniversary Celebration. It’s a landmark moment as we honour AFDA’s proud history while looking boldly to the future. Kicking off at 8.45am will be a full day of education, inspiration, and connection culminating in a Gala Ball at the iconic Forum Theatre. We are so excited to celebrate this milestone with everyone. Dying to Know Day is on 8 August - a powerful reminder to have open, honest conversations about end-of-life planning and how funerals support us through grief.

When a loved one dies, it’s natural to want to avoid pain but it’s often the rituals we’re most hesitant to face that help us the most. Rituals like funerals and viewings play a vital role in helping us acknowledge death, honour the person who has died, and begin the healing process. A viewing, in particular, offers a meaningful opportunity for one final goodbye.

Members from the AFDA VIC Division gathered in Wodonga on Wednesday for the North East Zone Meeting and heard an insightful presentation from Kara Chanter, a Palliative Care Nurse and End-of-Life Doula based in the Albury-Wodonga region, who shared how doulas can work alongside funeral directors to provide more holistic support to families navigating the death of a loved one. Special thanks to Victorian Divisional President David Hastie for hosting and to all our members and sponsors for making the evening such a success!

Speaker Call Out: AFDA 2026 National Convention

We’re inviting Members, National Corporate Partners and Affiliates to submit speaker proposals for our 2026 Convention. This is your chance to share your knowledge with attendees of the 2026 Convention at Novotel Sunshine Coast, 19-23 March 2026. Whether it's a breakout session, workshop or keynote we’re keen to receive proposals that introduce fresh perspectives and forward-thinking ideas that our Convention attendees can apply in their funeral home or business. We particularly welcome new voices who are yet to share their expertise on the AFDA stage. Successful presenters will receive one full Convention registration (valued over $1,000) including education sessions, dinners, and activities. Travel and accommodation not included.
