We all have a story and a vision… let your voice be heard!

Consultation is now open on Tasmania’s first Disability Inclusion Plan. This plan will help create a more inclusive and accessible Tasmania for people with disability.

The discussion paper, Towards a Tasmanian Disability Inclusion Plan, provides background information and asks questions to spark your ideas, such as:
What does true inclusion look like to you?
What changes would make your community more inclusive and accessible?

You can share your views through surveys, written or creative submissions, and by participating in face-to-face and online events running until February 2026.

As 2025 draws to a close we take a moment and reflect on all that has happened this year! At the core of all these moments is the relationships we have with each other, with our community colleagues and with the families we work with!

We wish everyone a wonderful break filled with warmth, safety, friends, family and fun. We will be using the time to recharge the batteries to come back ready for an action packed 2026.

Hey East Coast Families we have prepared a follow up social story 'WHEN THERE HAS BEEN A BIG FIRE' to help your child understand what is currently happening to them and in their community.

A social story helps children understand something that might be confusing, or a bit scary. It explains what will happen, why it happens, and what the child can do. This makes things feel less overwhelming and helps kids feel safer and more confident.

How to use a social story:
- read it together with your child.
- Read it more than once or if your child asks for it again (this is their brains processing)
- Talk about the story and answer any questions your child has.

To our East Coast families we are here! The whole of the Emerge community are holding you in our thoughts and hoping for a safe and positive outcome to the current bushfire situation for all. If facing evacuation and your child is feeling a little confused or overwhelmed, we have prepared a simple social story to help them understand the unplanned crisis you find yourself in.
It is designed to help children:
- Understand what is happening
- Reassure them of their safety
- Show them what to do
- Help with their feelings

Please follow the link and read as often as your child needs. https://emergealliedhealth.com/resources

Please also reach out to us by any means you have access to if you need support or help in navigating the next steps for your child.

Today we celebrate International Day of People with Disability - a day to recognise the strengths, identities and stories of disabled people in our community.

At Emerge, inclusion isn’t a theme for one day, it guides everything we do. We honour the many ways children communicate, play, learn and connect, whether that’s through speech, AAC, movement, behaviour, sign, or gesture.

The three visuals in these slides remind us that communication is beautifully diverse.
We’re proud to support children and families to access the tools, environments and relationships they need to thrive.
Today and every day, we celebrate disability pride, rights and community. 💛💙💚

🌻Parents/Carers in planning mode🌻

As families begin thinking about holidays and all the other “stuff” this will bring we wanted to share a hot tip - particularly for those boarding ✈️ this holidays.

All airports and airlines support and are aware of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower.

The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a simple tool for you to voluntarily share that you have a disability or condition that may not be immediately apparent – and that you may need a helping hand, understanding, or more time in shops, at work, on transport, or in public spaces.

Just because you can’t see it, doesn’t mean it is not there! https://hdsunflower.com/au/

Also, contact airlines in advance and they can work with you to provide a quiet area to await boarding, support for carrying luggage, options to enter the plane first or last. It is great when the village can support you to make these experiences a little easier for all 🫶

The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a globally-recognised symbol for non-visible disabilities, also known as hidden disabilities or invisible disabilities. Some people choose to wear the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower to discreetly identify that they may need support, help, or just a little more tim...

If you are looking for your therapist you may need to check the airport ✈️… a bunch of us heading away for a few days of learning with both Ross Greene’s Advanced Collaborative and Proactive Solutions Training and the Asia Pacific Autism Conference launching in Aus this week.

The best part is that Tassie will not be left behind 💪. We can’t wait to bring back our learnings and put them into action and continue to shape an island that is evidenced based, inclusive and draws on the strengths of our collective community to shape a bright future. 🫶
