As some may be aware, as of the end of June 2025, Dr Emily Hooper has made the very difficult decision to step away from Gynae.
Dr Emily is truly one in a million, with her kindness, compassion and amazing sense of humour, anyone who has been lucky enough to meet Emily knows they will be very well taken care of.
But please don’t fret! Emily is staying at Tamar O&G, shifting her focus to private obstetrics and Tamar Women’s Ultrasound and will still be floating around Ashton Gate.

June is the month to raise awareness for CMV

Cytomegalovirus (CMV), is a common herpes virus, passed from person to person via bodily fluid (saliva, nasal mucus, urine, tears, etc). When contracted by someone with a healthy immune system, usually they will show no symptoms. However, if a pregnant person contracts CMV, there is a risk that the unborn baby will also become infected.

While most babies will remain well, there is the chance CMV can cause injury to the baby's developing brain. More than 400 babies born in Australia each year are born with a life long disability caused by CMV.

Currently there is no vaccine available for CMV. So how do we prevent the spread?
-Maintain good hand hygiene
-Kiss with care - avoid kissing babies near their mouth, hands or face
-Avoid sharing food/drinks.

Are you due for a CST???
Previously called a pap smear/pap test, a Cervical Screening Test is the best way to screen for cervical cancer, but collecting cells from the cervix and checking for changes.
The general rule (unless otherwise advised by your doctor) is to have a test, either completed by a GP/Gynaecologist or a self collection swab. This should be completed every 5 years if you're between the ages of 25-74. If you think you're due for a screening, our GP's Dr Anna and Dr Emily I are available for a consultation
