Extreme heat can place extra stress on your body during pregnancy. Staying cool and well-hydrated is especially important for both you and your baby.

☀️ Drink water regularly throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty
☀️ Stay in air-conditioned or well-ventilated spaces where possible
☀️ Avoid being outdoors during the hottest parts of the day
☀️ Wear loose, light-coloured clothing and rest when you need to
☀️ Use cool showers, damp cloths, or fans to help lower your body temperature

Please seek medical advice urgently if you experience dizziness, fainting, headaches, reduced baby movements, contractions, or feel unwell in the heat.

Most importantly, take care of yourself and listen to your body. Slowing down during extreme heat is not only okay, it’s important.

Jon Baines Women’s Health Tour – Latin America 🇧🇷🇦🇷

Currently travelling through Brazil, Argentina and Patagonia, visiting hospitals and meeting incredible women’s health professionals.

We’ve been learning so much about the Brazilian health system and the unique challenges in obstetrics here, including very high caesarean rates, limited midwifery support, high rates of tubal ligation after one child, and shortages of doctors in smaller towns and rural regions.

Despite these challenges, the doctors and teams we’ve met are truly inspiring. Their dedication, resilience and passion for women’s health is unbelievable!! They are real heroes, making a difference every single day. 👏🏼💛

Feeling grateful to be here and to be learning from such remarkable people.

✨ Learn about the stretch & sweep, a gentle way to encourage labor naturally at the end of pregnancy. It’s quick and often helps your body release those magic hormones to kickstart labor.
ALWAYS done with your comfort and consent 👩‍⚕️

How it’s done:
Using gloves and a small amount of lubricant, your provider will gently place a finger into the va**na to check if the cervix has started to open.
If it has, they may sweep their finger around to help separate the membranes.
If at any point it feels too uncomfortable, you can let them know and they will stop straight away.

What to expect afterwards:
After a stretch and sweep, you may notice a mucus ‘show’, sometimes with a little blood.
You might also experience some cramping or contractions, this is a normal sign that your body is preparing for labour.
