The PEPA/IPEPA Victoria team recently attended the 2025 Oceanic Palliative Care Conference in Brisbane. Over three inspiring days, we engaged with a wide range of insightful presentations, reconnected with long-time colleagues and friends, and built new friendships with professionals from across Oceania.
The conference was a powerful reminder of the rich diversity, expertise, and dedication within our palliative care community. It also reinforced the importance of supporting our colleagues who have trained overseas, recognising the valuable perspectives and experiences they bring to our field.

“Developing a shared nursing culture does not require cultural assimilation, but rather mutual respect, cultural humility, and structural support that enable IENs to thrive while contributing to the richness of nursing practice.”

In the spirit of inclusiveness and collaboration, we’re opening our meetings to a broader audience and warmly invite everyone to join our PEPA|IPEPA Special Interest Group.
These quarterly online gatherings will offer dynamic discussions on a wide range of palliative topics, feature special guest speakers, and provide a welcoming space for health care professionals to connect, learn, and share insights across PEPA|IPEPA networks.
We look forward to growing this vibrant community with you.
Our first meeting will be held in January 2026, keep an eye on our website for details

This month is LGBTQ+ Pride Month — a time to honour the strength, resilience, and diversity of LGBTIQ+ communities.
Caring for someone at the end of life can be especially complex for LGBTIQ+ carers and care recipients.
There is a diversity of LGBTIQ+ life journeys, history, experience, and perspectives. This means that their carers can have unmet information needs.
CarerHelp has put together some resources that people who are LGBTIQ+, carers caring for someone who is LGBTIQ+ or support workers supporting LGBTIQ+ patients may find useful.

Find out more about CarerHelp's diverse community resources here: carerhelp.com.au/Communities/LGBTIQ

From juggling the roles of daughter and carer to navigating complex health needs without guidance, Vicky’s story is honest, powerful, and full of lessons for others walking a similar path.
If you're caring for someone at the end of life, you're not alone.

We're thrilled to see the launch of the ASPIRE Palliative Care Foundation Training Program for Pharmacists, to equip pharmacists with the knowledge, skills, and compassion needed to support people receiving palliative and end-of-life care wherever they are.

Tina Thomas from CarerHelp was delighted to participate in the development of the Aspire program, contributing content for the Carer Module. Congratulations to the PSA team on ensuring carer support is a core part of the ASPIRE program.
